The Divorced Military Queen Awakens (by Sadie Baxter) novel Chapter 557

Military 557 Garage Ambush

Only then did Laura’s gaze sharpen, finally focusing on the figure before her.

It was Sylas.

If her calculations were correct, his time in detention should have just ended.

“What do you want?” Laura asked, narrowing her eyes with a sharp edge of caution in every word.

Sylas sneered, his voice dripping with bitterness. “What do I want? You had me thrown right back into detention the moment I stepped out of prison. What do you think I want?”

“Try touching me tonight, and you won’t just be seeing detention again—you’ll be heading straight back to prison,” Laura warned, her tone icy and resolute.

Sylas laughed darkly, a cruel grin splitting his face like a blade. “Look at you now—made your fortune, even your attitude’s changed. Perfect timing, too. I’m broke. Hand over a million to get me started.”

“Not in a million years,” Laura replied with a frosty laugh that held no hint of humor.

“Then maybe I’ll rip that pretty dress off you, snap a few pictures, and see if suddenly a million sounds cheap to you,” Sylas growled, eyes glinting with menace.

“You’re begging for a cell, Sylas. This place is crawling with cameras. Touch me, and I’ll have you shipped back to prison before you know it,” Laura said, her voice as cold and unyielding as steel.

Sylas threw his head back and laughed, a harsh and victorious sound. “You still trust those cameras? I disabled every single one. Even if I force you right here, there’s no proof. I’ll just say you wanted it.”

Laura pressed her deep red lips together, refusing to show even the slightest tremble that might give him satisfaction.

Then, with a snarl, Sylas lunged forward, arms outstretched. “Tonight, Laura, you pay! Years in a cell, and you think I’m walking away with nothing—” His words cut off abruptly, replaced by a sharp, strangled gasp—and then silence.

The dim overhead lights flickered, catching the gleam of metal as Laura pressed a compact stun prod firmly against Sylas’ abdomen. Her shoulders squared, knuckles tightening white around the plastic handle.

Electric blue needles sparked, arcing through his shirt. Sylas convulsed violently, his spine arching like a fish flung from water, before collapsing onto the grimy, oil-stained concrete floor.

Laura kept the trigger engaged, the electrodes still glowing against his shirt until every last tremor left his body.

Since the day Sylas was released and showed up at her doorstep, she had ordered this stun prod online, slipping it quietly into her purse—a silent promise to herself for protection. She had never imagined she’d have to use it so soon.

“Sylas Seymour, did you really think I’m still that scared girl you used to push around? I recorded every vile word you spat just now. Erase the security footage if you want—I still have proof you threatened me and planned real harm,” she said, voice steady and unwavering.

Fury carved deep lines into Sylas’ face. “Fine,” he growled, “so you ambushed me, huh?”

He staggered upright, a tarnished knife flashing in his hand, and lurched toward her with murderous intent.

Her heart pounded fiercely in her chest as Laura spun on her heel and bolted for the ramp leading out of the underground garage.

Sylas now wielded a blade. The stun prod only worked at close range.
