550 VIP Maternity Visit
Julius had already arranged special permission for Quinn to access the hospital’s exclusive VIP wing, ensuring their visit would be as private and comfortable as possible.
As they quietly slipped into the secluded corridor, the low hum of whispers and camera clicks grew louder behind them. Several onlookers scrambled to pull out their phones, capturing hurried snapshots of the couple’s retreating figures as they disappeared from view.
Guided carefully by Julius, Quinn moved steadily from one station to the next, methodically completing every prenatal test required. The sterile, softly lit halls of the VIP wing contrasted sharply with the bustling chaos outside, offering a calm oasis amid the hospital’s usual frenzy.
When it was time for the heartbeat check, Quinn reclined gently on the examination bed. The doctor, with a practiced hand, pressed the probe against her still-flat belly, moving it slowly and delicately as he searched for the tiny, elusive pulse within.
Julius stood close by, his eyes fixed on Quinn with a tenderness that seemed to dissolve every hardened edge he had ever carried. The usual stoicism in his gaze softened into something almost vulnerable.
Suddenly, the doctor paused, and the monitor emitted a steady, confident thumping sound. Thump. Thump. Thump.
The rhythm was strong and clear, like a miniature engine powering its way through the silence.
“This is your baby’s heartbeat—powerful and beautiful,” the doctor said with a warm smile. “Would you like us to record it? Many parents treasure having the sound as a keepsake.”
Quinn’s voice lifted in surprise. “You can actually record it?”
“Absolutely. It’s a service the hospital offers.”
“Then yes, please—let’s do that,” Quinn replied eagerly.
The doctor pressed the record button, and as the steady thump filled the room, Quinn noticed Julius’s unusual silence. He said nothing, his lips pressed tightly together.
Then, unexpectedly, a warm, wet drop traced down her cheek.
Looking up, Quinn saw Julius frozen in place, tears streaming down his face. The tear that had touched her skin belonged to him.
“What’s wrong? Don’t cry,” Quinn whispered, gently raising her hand to brush his cheek.
Only then did Julius seem to come back to himself.
He was startled to realize he had been crying.
“I… I just…” Julius’s lips moved, but no words came. He couldn’t explain why the tears had surfaced so suddenly.
The moment he heard that heartbeat, an overwhelming surge of emotion had flooded through him—something deep and indescribable.
“First-time fathers often do that,” the doctor said lightly. “Love for the baby can bring out strong emotions.”
Love for the baby?
Julius blinked, uncertain and confused.
