The film told the story of two lovers torn apart by misunderstandings. When they finally met again, their hair had turned stark white.
Sipping coffee in a quiet café, they pieced together decades of missed chances and realized every rift might have been healed, had they been braver, more honest. But time had marched on. Each had built a separate family, and the once–blazing love settled into a wistful ache of regret.
Julius draped one arm around Quinn’s shoulders, holding her in a loose embrace while the credits rolled in soft, fading light.
“Doesn’t it scare you?” Quinn asked, head still resting against his chest. “Two people who aren’t honest enough can end up living with nothing but regret.”
“Some things matter even more than regret,” he said after a moment, words slow and heavy.
For him, that “something” was simple: her safety.
“So what did the movie make you feel?” Quinn straightened, meeting his eyes.
“If the day comes when you decide you don’t want me,” Julius murmured, taking her hand, “don’t leave me any hope. Because if you give me the slightest chance, I’ll cling to you like a ghost–no polite farewells, no peaceful coffee dates.”
He bent his head, pressing his cheek against her palm, nuzzling it with a tenderness laced by quiet desperation.
His voice sounded sorrowful. “Promise me–no hope at all. If you plan to let me go, then let me go completely.”
Quinn stared at him, then chuckled softly. “What nonsense. We just found our way back to each other, remember? You’re the boyfriend I fought so hard to win back.”
A faint smile flickered across his face. “You’re right–I’m talking nonsense.”
He rose to his feet, fingers brushing the back of the couch. “How about some wine? Suddenly, I could use a glass of red.”
“Sure,” Quinn replied, warmth returning to her voice. “Let’s open a bottle.”
Moments later, Julius re–entered, cradling a bottle of deep crimson cabernet and two empty crystal goblets.

He placed the glasses on the low table, poured until the wine glimmered beneath the lamplight, then lifted one and held it out to Quinn. Just as she tilted the glass, his fingers closed around her wrist, arresting the motion.
“What is it?” Quinn lifted her eyes, puzzlement swimming in their hazel depths.
Julius opened his mouth, closed it, then opened it again. “I…” The single syllable evaporated before it found shape.
“Do you have something you want to tell me?” Her voice was soft, almost coaxing.
His lips felt suddenly dry, his throat clogged with invisible sand, as though every unspoken word had dried to dust inside him.
At last, he released her, forcing a frail smile. “I only wanted to toast you. To wish you peace for all the years still waiting for you.”
Quinn’s answering smile was sunlit and unguarded. She raised her goblet and let it meet his with a bright, ringing chime.
The sound sang through the room like fragile bells.
Julius watched as she tipped the red liquid down her throat, the arc of her neck luminous. Only then did he drink his own wine in a single draught.
“Quinn, I love you.” The words eased out of him, slow and reverent.
“I know.” Her smile deepened. “Julius, I have known from the first moment you gave your heart away.”
He refilled both glasses, hands steady now. “Yes, you know. You must also know that when you flew across oceans to find me here in Celosia, I pretended I didn’t want us back together. Yet inside, I was absurdly happy you came.”
Quinn nodded, swirling the garnet liquid so it kissed the crystal. “I know, because you love
me.”
“I love you too much. That fear makes me cowardly, afraid I’ll win you back only to watch you slip away. Even so, Quinn, you remain the one adventure worth every hazard.”
Even if the journey hurled him from heaven back into hell, he would accept the fall without complaint.
She sipped again, cheeks aglow. “You’re adorable, Julius. Hearing you speak like this makes me want to spoil you even more.”
