The air seemed to grow colder, the atmosphere heavy and tense, freezing into an eerie stillness.
It felt like an unseen blade of ice, sharp and silent, pressing down relentlessly.
“Take a guess,” Grant said, his smile deepening.
His eyes glinted with a cruel amusement as they lingered on the proud, unyielding figure before him.
Grant did not give Justin an answer. But it was more cruel than any response could have been.
“Okay, understood,” Justin said with a faint, humorless smile. His gaze was cold, sharp, and unwavering. “One day, you might regret the choice you made twenty years ago.”
Grant’s brows furrowed upon hearing those words.
“You had one chance to kill me,” Justin continued, his voice calm but razor-edged. “But you missed it.”
With that, Justin turned and walked out, but his commanding and unshaken presence lingered, filling the space he left behind.
Grant stood frozen, his eyes fixed on the empty doorway.
The pen in his hand trembled slightly as he gripped it tightly, the veins on the back of his hand standing out starkly against his pale skin.
…
After Bella wrapped up her work that morning, she discovered through a trending topic on Twitter that Justin had been released on bail.
Around the same time, the Salvador Corporation made an announcement that sent shockwaves across the internet.
Bella, who had been reading the online comments in her office, suddenly picked up her cup and smashed it to the ground.
Her face flushed with anger as she yelled, “How dare they say this?!”
Watching from the side, Steven could not help but chuckle despite his own frustration. He quickly stepped forward to clean up the shattered pieces of the cup.
“Those trolls are miserable in real life and loud on the internet. They’re all unhappy with their own lives, so they use the internet as a dumping ground for their negative emotions. On top of that, a lot of people just hate the rich. If they say something nasty, treat it like a dog fart and move on. Don’t let it get to you.”
“But they’re not entirely wrong,” Bella said, taking a deep breath to calm herself, though her chest still felt tight with frustration. “This battle is going to be hard for Justin to win. Whether the drug allegations are true or not, the rumors are already out there. To the public, his image as a drug addict is already cemented. Even if we clear his name one day, the damage is done. It’s irreversible.”
Just as she was venting her frustrations, her phone buzzed with a call from Ralph.
“Bella! I’ve found everything about Dr. Wagner, including his background and the situation with his wife and son,” Ralph said eagerly.
