Terror filled Yvonne’s eyes, causing her slender legs to shake uncontrollably beneath her dress.
“The last time we visited Mr. Salvador, I couldn’t help but notice his eyes constantly on you.”
Suddenly, Christopher gripped her chin forcefully, tilting her head up with a pressure that felt like it could shatter her jawbone. “This time, I’m certain he’s taken a liking to you. Apparently, he’s not as refined as he seems. If he can’t have the real thing, an imitation to satisfy his eyes and desires isn’t a bad alternative either.”...
Tears welled up in Yvonne’s eyes, and she pleaded desperately, “Mr. Iverson... Please… Please don’t send me to Mr. Salvador! For the sake of all the years I’ve served you loyally… Please don’t send me away… I beg you!”
“Value? What value do you still have left?!”
Already simmering with unspent anger since his return, Christopher unleashed his fury on Yvonne, shoving her hard in the chest.
She stumbled back, hitting the wall with a thud, her spine ached.
“Taylor, pack her things and send her to Meridan tomorrow!”
“No!”
Yvonne dropped to her knees at Christopher’s feet, her tear-streaked face raised in desperate supplication. “I swear to serve you faithfully! I’ll never betray you! I’ll do anything you ask… Just please don’t send me away!”
Yvonne’s tears and fears were genuine.
However, even she could not discern how much truth lay in her words.
Christopher had been her savior. He had rescued her from a life of hardship and given her a sense of belonging.
She could not forget how he carried her on horseback, taught her to play the piano, enjoy fine wine, and become cultured.
He transformed her. Before returning to Savrow, Christopher was her everything. He was her guiding light and her purpose.
“When Drew returns to the country, we can have Ms. Smith find another opportunity to get close to him. Once he’s completely let his guard down and falls for our honey trap, we’ll have the perfect chance to eliminate him!”
Yvonne’s heart ached unbearably, her pearly tears mixing with blood as they fell from her eyes.
As she was trembling, she opened her palm slightly. Drew’s devilish, arrogant smile was reflected in the teardrop.
Christopher narrowed his eyes and strode past the woman kneeling on the ground without another glance.
Taylor sighed as he watched his boss leave. Then he reached out to help Yvonne up.
“It’s okay… I can get up myself,” Yvonne muttered, wiping her tears roughly and struggling to her feet.
“Ms. Smith, Mr. Iverson is in a bad mood. It’ll be best if you stay out of his sight for the next few days. Try to avoid him if you can,” Taylor advised helplessly.
