Christopher sat upright the moment the call got through.
“Sir…”
“It must be midnight there, Mr. Iverson. Why aren’t you in bed yet?”
The person who answered the call was Clarice.
Christopher was surprised. “Ms. Amaryllis?”
“It’s morning here in Meridan. He is a guest at the Reeds’ place and doesn’t have time to take your call.”
Clarice’s perky voice bore disdain. “You can just let me know what you want to say, and I’ll relay the message.”
Christopher frowned and clenched his fists.
Despite serving the man tirelessly for so many years, Christopher still felt a void within him and an invisible barrier between himself and the man. He doubted whether the man even regarded him as a confidant.
Yet Clarice managed to gain the man’s trust in a short amount of time. She could even take his personal calls.
The man, wise and strong as he was, lost himself to a woman.
“If there’s nothing you want to talk about, I should get back to him, Mr. Iverson.” Clarice had no patience for Christopher.
“I have given the medicine to Ms. Thompson, and she has accepted it.”
“Oh, that’s great. Congratulations. Ms. Thompson accepted something of yours for once.” Clarice mocked.
Christopher seemed hesitant. “There’s nothing wrong with the drug, right?”
…
The morning soon arrived.
Upon learning the truth, none of the Thompsons could sleep. They kept by Wyatt’s side, their eyes bloodshot from the lack of rest.
Celeste, Sasha, and Amelia came to the hospital with breakfast, but no one had the appetite to eat. They sat there, waiting for the test results.
In Justin’s jacket, Bella sat still on the chair for hours on end. She did not slouch in the slightest.
Justin texted Ian and Ryan to see if they had other ways to tackle the issue. He only enlisted help from someone he trusted due to the severity of the matter.
All Justin could do was keep Bella company and hold her cold hand tightly in his grasp.
