The Divorced Heiress’s Revenge novel Chapter 1491

Sentenced to death...

The court had sentenced Winston to death!

In Winston’s mind, it was like a colossal bomb exploding. He could not hear and did not want to listen to what Clarence had to say next. Instead, he gripped the railing uncontrollably and shouted, “How could you sentence me to death?! I’m a foreigner! Are you trying to mess with me because I’m unfamiliar with the law?! Even if someone were to sentence me, it shouldn’t be by you… My country should’ve been the one to repatriate me... My country’s court should’ve been the one to judge me! You cannot impose the death penalty on me!”

Clarence glanced at Winston’s pale and sinister face with a smirk, coldly raising his voice. “You want to talk about the law with me? Fine then. Let me enlighten you with some basic legal principles. According to the regulations in ‘Jurisdiction Immunity of Diplomatic Representatives in Criminal Matters’, diplomatic channels resolve the criminal liability of foreigners who enjoy diplomatic privileges and immunities. Winston, what makes you think you have the qualifications or status to enjoy this privilege? Besides, foreign nationals who commit crimes within our country are subject to our laws, just like our citizens. However, authorities may give a slight chance to escape punishments to certain individuals who enjoy diplomatic privileges and immunities. But you, Winston, clearly do not belong to that category.”

Winston trembled fiercely. “N-No, that’s impossible…”

“Besides, your embassy contacted us right after the morning session ended. They stated that they wouldn’t intervene in your case any longer and have fully handed it over to us for trial. Since you don’t have rights to immunity, according to the principle of territorial jurisdiction, our court has the right to judge you according to our law. Now that the court has established the facts of your intentional homicide, we can legally sentence you to death.”

“I did kill someone, but that vile woman, Shannon, forced me to do so! I had no choice!”

Winston glared viciously at Shannon. “I was just an accomplice! Shannon is the mastermind! She manipulated me! She deserves the death penalty!”

Shannon, her eyes bloodshot, glared and rudely spat at Winston without any decorum, covering his face with spit.

Despite the courtroom setting, Shannon’s current appearance resembled that of a crazed woman rather than the dignified and elegant tycoon’s wife, almost causing the Thompsons to burst out laughing.

“She’s certainly something. Even now, she refuses to admit defeat.” Bella squinted her clear eyes.

In a daze, she could smell not only the scent of rust but also a nauseating, rotting stench, as if someone had buried a long-dead animal beneath her feet. Invisible waves of foul odor rose and enveloped her tightly.

Her nostrils flared as she sniffled around the cell like a dog, desperately searching for the source of the smell.

“After thorough investigation, we have confirmed that the defendant, Shannon Quarry, had secretly hired Winston to brutally murder Linny, who had discovered her secret, to cover up her murder of Mary twenty years ago. Her methods were cruel, and her actions were heinous. Therefore, the Savrow Intermediate People’s Court sentences the defendant Shannon to thirty years in prison for incitement and hiring a hitman.” When Clarence announced Shannon’s verdict, his tone got colder and harsher than when he delivered Winston’s verdict.

Shannon shuddered.

Thirty years… Would she even be alive by then?
