Bella said, “Was it James’ scheme?!”
Justin explained, “It could be a possibility. This incident indirectly caused the Iverson couple to split up. Mrs. Iverson blamed Christopher, who wasn’t well-liked at home anyway, and he got sent off to Sentania for fifteen years with nobody caring for him. Meanwhile, Mrs. Iverson’s health declined over time, and Christopher received almost no financial support from the Iverson family either. Living in Sentania was tough for him.”
Bella was somewhat surprised and asked, “Are you defending your enemy?”
Justin smiled faintly and said, “No, I’m just stating the facts. Even if he is my enemy, I won’t twist the truth.”
Bella was moved, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a peck on the lips.
It was this integrity and openness that Christopher could never compare to.
“So, do you think he wouldn’t hold a grudge? If I were him, I’d also spare no effort to come back and avenge my mother, no matter the cost,” Justin said, his gaze deep and distant.
“But that still doesn’t justify what he did.” Bella continued shaking her head. “Besides, if he wanted revenge, he could have targeted the Iverson family. Why did he have to harm you, Asher, and Camilla? How could he not know that Edward was my brother-in-law when he was in Sentania? He claimed to love me but shamelessly went after my family behind closed doors. Just because my brother didn’t approve of him, he conspired with Maxwell and tried to secretly get rid of him.”
She continued, “If things didn’t go his way, he’d make sure everyone else suffered along with him. He’s willing to hurt anyone who doesn’t do as he says, even if it’s someone related to the person he loves! How many more people does he want to hurt before he’s satisfied? He’s too selfish and heartless!”
Justin blinked slowly as he struggled to find the right words. It felt a little silly to join Bella in cursing Christopher.
Bella fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said, puzzled, “Back then, Christopher was young and had no one to help him. How did he manage to rise up and expand his business then?”
Justin’s eyes lit up. “That’s a good question. Bella, I’ve also been puzzled by this and have been secretly investigating.”
“Even you, who came from the Salvador family, only managed to reach your current position with your grandfather’s strong support. How could Christopher not have someone supporting him behind the scenes?”
“Well, I still feel full,” Bella said as she patted her round belly.
“Should we go rowing?”
Bella raised her eyebrows, teasing him. “Do you believe everything I say? It’s so dark outside. Let’s not drown in the lake.”
“Then... Shall we go back to the room and do some other activities to help with digestion?” Justin said as his breathing became heavier, his low magnetic voice carrying a seductive tone.
Bella’s heart skipped a beat, feeling shy in his embrace. “Um… Let’s just go rowing…”
Justin did not know whether to be happy or upset. Is she getting bored of me? It seems that I’ll have to unlock some new tricks.
