“Justin, they don’t understand you, but I do.”
Bella sighed, putting her warm palms on the back of his hands. “If it were me, I’d do my best to fulfill my mother’s dying wish too. But I could understand your mother’s thoughts. What she actually wanted was for you to be capable enough to protect yourself, hoping you’d become strong.
“The road you chose was not wrong. Even though you resent your father, Grandpa Nigel has always doted on you, contributing to your achievements today. For Grandpa Nigel, your perseverance and efforts are not without meaning.”
“Bella… Thank you.” Justin held back the lump in his throat, but his voice trembled lightly as he called out to her.
“What are you thanking me for? I just know you too well.” Bella flashed a sweet smile at him.
“Now, Winston is willing to testify as a witness to accuse Shannon of hiring hitmen, taking drugs, and hiding drugs. Her sentence won’t be light.”
Axel’s brows furrowed. “But I know it’s far from enough. We wanted Shannon to get a death sentence. After all, she has more lives on her hands!”
“It’s hard.”
Ralph frowned and shook his head, his expression heavy. “We don’t have evidence of her instigating murder. Moreover, Linny’s recordings were obtained illegally, so we can’t present them in court. Another point is that Justin’s mother’s case was over twenty years ago. Even if we have that maid’s testimony, it’s still not enough. Besides, Shannon’s defense attorney is Hunter. Who knows what sort of dirty tricks that bastard would use to deal with us?”
Steven’s face paled, and he took a deep breath. “This time, I will stand in court as Linny’s defense attorney.”
Ralph and Axel were stunned. “Steven, you want to go to court?!”
On the other hand, Bella and Justin remained calm, even casting confident glances at him.
A few days ago, Steven had already informed them of his plan and received their support.
He had been a secretary for the Thompson family for many years, and many people, including his brother, had forgotten that Steven was a top student from the best law school in Savrow.
Steven poured a glass of wine and raised it to Justin. “Mr. Salvador, since we’re in the same situation, shouldn’t we share a toast?”
Justin felt a warmth surge into his heart, and he immediately stood up, raising his glass. “Steven, thank you for taking care of Bella all this while and being willing to help. May we both get what we want.”
“Definitely.” Steven’s eyes welled up with tears as he nodded heavily.
Bella stood up too, raising her glass with a smile. Her slim arms were hooked around Justin’s waist. “Come on! Let’s do it together!”
The six wine glasses raised above their heads were filled with a gleam of hope for victory.
“Let’s do it!”
