“Well, even if the coffee at the police station tastes awful, at least it doesn’t harm me. But I dare not drink anything from the Iverson household. Who knows if it might cause severe stomach issues? Or worse, maybe I’ll get poisoned. It’s just not worth the risk,” Ralph replied with a cool smile, easily brushing off James’ taunts.
“Mr. Thompson! My son’s case has been closed. Your people released him! What brings you here again?!”
Fed up with arguing, Lance’s eyes were red with anger and embarrassment. He exclaimed, “You can’t just take Charles away without evidence. I won’t let you have it your way again. The Iverson family isn’t something the Thompsons can mold and manipulate at will! I’m only extending courtesy to you because of the long-standing relationship between our families and because you’re Wyatt Thompson’s son. Don’t take advantage of my generosity!”
The police officers thought, ‘Wyatt Thompson’s son?! Our Captain Thompson is the son of Hatchybay’s wealthiest man and Bella Thompson’s brother?!’
The jaw-dropping news nearly made the two officers’ jaws hit the floor.
Ralph had been with the police for many years, maintaining a low profile and focusing only on his work, never discussing his private life or family background.
Initially, when he became the head of the detective squad, there was criticism about his young age and supposed connections. But after he quickly solved several high-profile cases, earning accolades in only three years, all such gossip faded.
They suspected Ralph had significant backing, but they had no idea that it was to this extent!
Ralph knew that Lance brought up his father in front of his colleagues to pressure him, but he remained completely unfazed, even feeling a slight urge to laugh.
“The law does not wrongly convict the innocent, nor does it spare any brute.”
The Iversons’ expressions turned as dark as a pot scorched for over a decade.
“Ralph! You… Who are you calling a brute?!” Charles pointed at Ralph’s handsome face, his voice quivering with anger.
“Mr. Charles Thompson, you are currently under suspicion in connection with an attempted rape case. Please come with us to assist with the investigation,” Ralph stated firmly, cutting to the chase. His gaze was as cold as ice, piercing Charles’ pallid face.
Ralph smiled wryly, his eyebrows arching teasingly. “I merely suggested that Charles come with us to cooperate with our investigation and provide a statement. You look fine, but you don’t seem to understand human speech.”
James gritted his teeth in fury. “Ralph! You!”
“After all, everyone saw Ms. Thompson’s livestream yesterday, where she identified Charles as an abuser. Although he ultimately did not succeed due to his inability, we cannot ignore a victim’s report.”
“I-I’m not going!” Terrified, Charles shook uncontrollably. His body was even stiffer than his prosthetics.
“Are you afraid to even cooperate with the investigation? Does that mean you’re hiding something? Is everything Ms. Thompson claimed the truth?”
Ralph remained composed, yet his words carried an icy resolve. “If you refuse to cooperate with the police investigation or attempt to flee the country at this critical moment, these actions will be seen as evidence of guilt. I will then have a perfectly legitimate reason to request an arrest warrant from my superior, Mr. Iverson. Oh, by the way, I almost forgot. Before coming here, I had already applied for a travel ban against you. You won’t be able to leave Savrow, let alone the country.”
