Anne froze. "What do you mean?"
Carly explained, "I mean… is the Heartstring Venom no longer working? Didn't you say once Adam was infected with that venom, he wouldn't be able to go near Celine again?
"But today, he was with her again! He hasn't changed his mind at all. Your Heartstring Venom has no effect on Adam!"
Anne wondered how this could be. She never doubted her skills in witchcraft. After all, she successfully ruined Fiona's relationship with Nigel using these very techniques. How could her Heartstring venom fail on Adam?
"Carly, you must be mistaken. Once infected with this venom, it can't be removed so easily. How could it possibly be ineffective?"
"It is ineffective. Adam is still with Celine!"
Anne's mind raced. Something had clearly gone wrong, but where? That was when she spotted a few figures by the door.
Adam, Celine, and Hailey were all there.
And it was not just the three of them. Even Nigel and Fiona had also joined the group.
Everyone was here.
Anne immediately realized that Adam had set the trap. He had brought everyone here to catch her red-handed.
There was no way she could let herself be exposed like that.
Nigel didn't know she practiced Yoruzen witchcraft, after all.
Anne turned to Carly. "Carly, you don't look well. Why don't you go rest for now? We can talk later, okay?"
As she spoke, she gave Carly a subtle look, trying to signal her.
Anne took a few steps forward, trying to shift Carly's position so she'd be facing the doorway. Maybe then she'd see the people standing there.
But Carly was too fixated on Anne to notice. "Ms. Warwick, why are you playing dumb? You're skilled in Yoruzen witchcraft. You're the one who infected Adam with the Heartstring Venom. Years ago, you even used a different venom on Fiona—she nearly died during childbirth because of it."
"Shut up, Carly! Shut up right now!" Anne roared.
Carly froze, stunned by Anne's explosive reaction.
Right at that exact moment, the door swung open forcefully.
Nigel's cold, powerful voice cut through the tension. "Why won't you let Carly speak? Let her say it. I want to hear the full story."
Carly turned around, finally noticing the group standing in the doorway. She froze in place out of shock and horror.
