Hearing Ann call out, Caitlin glanced back over her shoulder, locking eyes with her sister. Her voice was steady, deliberate. “Are you sure you’re really the girl from that viral photo everyone’s talking about?”
“Between the two of us, who’s really sneaking around here?”
Caitlin’s eyes were striking—clear, almond-shaped, almost too sharp for comfort. There was a quiet intensity in her gaze, like she could slice right through all the rot and see straight to the ugly truth underneath.
Ann felt a sudden pang of anxiety for reasons she couldn’t explain. She quickly looked away, but forced herself to sound confident. “Of course it’s me! Who else would it be?”
If it wasn’t her in the photo, then what—Caitlin? Please. Caitlin’s question made it sound like she actually wanted to steal the spotlight for herself. Shameless.
“Is it really, though?” Caitlin’s lips curled into a faint, almost mocking smile as she asked again.
Ann mirrored her smile, but it was brittle. “If you’re that jealous of my followers on TikTok, you can have my account. We’re sisters, right? Why not just talk to me instead of playing games online?”
So pathetic. She couldn’t believe Caitlin thought she could play in the big leagues.
“The real will always be real, the fake will always be fake. Truth can’t be faked, and lies can’t become truth. Do as you will.” Caitlin switched off the TV and headed upstairs without another word.
Ann narrowed her eyes as she watched Caitlin’s retreating back, her face twisted in disdain. Since when did thieves get so bold? Some people would do anything for a taste of fame.
Back in her room, Caitlin logged into Twitter and fired off a post:
N: [This photo is me—there’s no need to pretend otherwise, so I won’t be apologizing to Victoria. Second, if Victoria claims I stole her picture, then it’s on her to prove it. Here’s my evidence. [image.jpg]]
Attached was a photo: Caitlin, dressed in last year’s outfit, snapped a shot from behind in her bedroom.
The comments rolled in instantly:
[Wow, that’s an amazing shot!]
