Fortune had just finished making dinner.
There were two dishes and a soup: pan-seared fish, sautéed greens, and a light pork broth.
"Catie, dinner's ready," Fortune called out as he fiddled with the juicer. "Do you want apple juice or orange juice?"
"Apple, please." Caitlin smiled. "Thank you, Grandpa."
Fortune chuckled and started peeling oranges for the juice.
Meanwhile, Caitlin washed her hands and headed to the kitchen to help bring the dishes out.
Five minutes later, Fortune finished juicing the fruit, and the two of them sat down at the table to eat.
Caitlin complimented Fortune on his cooking before saying, "Grandpa, tomorrow morning at nine, could you invite Mr. Marshall and Mr. Blake? Let's all go to the management office together."
"What for?" Fortune asked, confused.
Caitlin grinned. "I told you, I want Ray to apologize to you in person. And Mr. Marshall and Mr. Blake lost their jobs because they stood up for you. I've already arranged for them to get easier jobs at the management office, with better pay than before."
Ray apologizing? Marshall and Blake getting easier jobs?
Fortune didn't take it seriously. "Don't joke about things like this, Catie. Mr. Marshall and Mr. Blake have already found work elsewhere. It's just a longer commute, that's all."
"Grandpa, do you really think I'd joke about something like this?" Caitlin's expression was earnest.
Fortune hesitated. "Catie, you're serious?"
Caitlin nodded and sipped her soup. "Yes, it's all settled. So be sure to let Mr. Marshall and Mr. Blake know to meet you tomorrow morning, and we'll all go together."
"Alright, alright."
After dinner, Fortune picked up the phone and called Grant and Farley to let them know.
Once he finished the call, Keeley couldn't help but exclaim, "Kensington, you really believed what Catie said?"
In Keeley's eyes, Caitlin was probably just showing off. She was just a kid—how could she have that kind of influence?
Fortune looked at Keeley and said, "Catie's not the type to say things she can't deliver on. If she says she's got this, then she must be pretty sure of herself."
Keeley laughed. "Well, you'll see for yourself tomorrow! But I wouldn't get my hopes up. Ray's got connections—he's related to the higher-ups. As long as he's around, there's no way Caitlin could get Marshall and Blake their jobs back at the management office. And getting Ray to apologize? That's even less likely."
