THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1174

Gertrude had once cherished her friendship with Elsa.

Their university days were filled with happy memories together.

But later, Elsa's actions had left her utterly disappointed.

There was no denying it.

Elsa's current behavior was just pathetic.

When she needed Caitlin, she was all tears and apologies. When she didn't, she was capable of saying the most vile things imaginable.

If Caitlin didn't have the power and status she did now, Elsa would never have called to admit she was wrong.

Everything Elsa did was because she wanted something from someone.

"That's not it," Elsa quickly explained. "Gertrude, you've misunderstood. I'm not that kind of person. I truly know I was wrong. To err is human, right? I'm begging you, please, for the sake of our nearly eight years of friendship, just forgive me this one time, okay?"

"Elsa, I've told you before, I'm not your dumpster, and I don't take returns. That's it. We're done for good."

With that, Gertrude hung up the phone, turned, and slid the balcony door open, walking back into the living room.

Louie was assembling a robot. Seeing Gertrude come back inside, he looked up. "Who were you talking to, honey? So mysterious."

"Elsa," Gertrude replied.

Louie frowned slightly. "You're still in touch with her?"

While Louie never interfered with Gertrude's social life, Elsa's behavior had been truly awful.

In the period right after their falling out, Gertrude had tried everything to make up with Elsa and had cried over her several times. Just when she had finally decided to cut ties for good, she was in contact with her again. Louie felt Gertrude deserved better.

"We haven't been for a while," Gertrude continued. "She called me from a new number this time, that's why I answered."

Louie let out a sigh of relief, then asked, "So what did she want?"
