Elsa was kicked to the floor, hard.

Before she could even process what had happened, Xander's mother, Frieda, grabbed a handful of her hair. "You slut! You shameless gold-digger! How dare you hit my son! Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Frieda raised her hand to slap Elsa, but then seemed to think better of it. Instead of striking her face, she brought her hand down on Elsa's body, her fingers digging in like claws.

Then, she swung a leg over and straddled Elsa, pinning her to the ground with her full weight.

Elsa was utterly helpless, without the strength to even fight back. All she could do was lie there as Frieda rode her, pinching and twisting the flesh on her arms and torso.

The pain was excruciating.

Elsa couldn't believe it. How could the kind, gentle mother-in-law she thought she knew have such a terrifying, monstrous side?

She had been completely blind. All this time, the entire family had been playing a part, and she had fallen for it completely.

"You shameless whore!"

"Get out!"

"Get the hell out of my house!"

When she'd had enough, Frieda dragged Elsa to the front door and threw her out onto the landing, tossing her suitcase out after her.

Just as Frieda was about to slam the door shut, Xander Forrester suddenly rushed out from inside. "Mom, wait a second!"

"What is it, Xander?" Frieda asked, confused.

Xander leaned in and whispered something in Frieda's ear. They exchanged a look, and then the two of them immediately advanced on Elsa. Xander held her down while Frieda ripped the bracelet off Elsa's wrist.

It was a Forrester family heirloom, and there was no way in hell they were letting a girl like Elsa walk off with it.

Through the whole ordeal, Elsa didn't even have a chance to resist.

The door was shut again.

Elsa sank onto the floor and came apart, ugly sobs wracking her until she could barely breathe.

She didn't even remember how she left the Forrester's building.

Dragging her suitcase behind her, she wandered back to the apartment she had rented before the wedding, her spirit completely broken.

Thankfully, she still had six months left on the lease and hadn't terminated it early. Otherwise, she would have had nowhere to go. After the disaster that had just unfolded, how could she possibly face her parents?

She had barely settled into the rental when she received a court summons.

The hearing was scheduled for three days from now.

Xander was not only filing for divorce but was also suing her for the return of all wedding-related funds.

Elsa's hands trembled as she held the papers.

Court proceedings take time to initiate. The fact that she received the summons right after Xander showed his true colors meant he had been planning this divorce for a long time.
