After all, if Sherman and Rita were to have a baby, he would cherish them regardless of gender. He would spoil the baby like a princess if it were a girl, and if it were a son… Well, he would spoil him just the same.
Sherman smiled wryly at the thought. As long as it was his and Rita's baby, he could not possibly not adore them.
Rita, unaware of Sherman's thoughts about their future child's gender, was grumbling on her end. "I hate it here. If it weren't for getting evidence, I wouldn't have come back. I'm losing my appetite more and more in this house. Even Donna's cooking can't save it."
Sherman naturally felt distressed to hear that. "Then why don't you hurry out? Do you want to sit at the dining table until the end of time?"
Rita was surprised. "Are you saying you're here to pick me up already?"
As she walked outside while holding her phone, she smiled when she saw the car parked at the door. "Why didn't you tell me earlier? I wouldn't have stayed for lunch if you had told me you were coming! After all, the food you take me to eat is ten thousand times better than the ones I ate with them."
"So, you're just going out with me to avoid your dad?"
Through the car window, Rita could see Sherman's relaxed expression. She opened the car door and got in while ending the call.
Rita blinked as she looked at Sherman. "Where are we going to eat today?"
"Is that the only question you have when you see me? Can't we go on a date together?" asked Sherman helplessly.
Sherman understood what Rita had always been concerned about, and he knew that as long as the issues in her family were not completely resolved, Rita would never dare to openly admit her feelings for him. He was willing to give her time, to let her understand her own feelings.
All he could do was to make the first move again and again, so that she would be able to hear her own thoughts amid the heartbeat that echoed time and again. He had always been a man of action, believing that as long as he did more than he said, Rita would eventually realize her feelings.
However, neither of them anticipated the unexpected turn of events in their peaceful lives.
After finishing her day's work, Rita received a very timely call from Sherman. Even before hearing his voice, she smiled.
"Are you going to your father's place today?" asked Sherman.
