The Daring Billionaire’s Wife (Vanessa and Dominic) novel Chapter 139

Dominic

Vanessa's question makes me rise to my feet with a heavy sigh before I can respond.

"You know how manipulative Carmella can be," she adds.

"Yes, I'm aware of that but the part about her ex-husband is the one thing that I don't doubt. I remember how paranoid she seemed before she left town. She didn't even take care of herself. Maybe that's how scared she was."

"And where's he now?"

"She refused to tell me but wants security around her."

"Do you feel bad for her?"

"In that aspect, yes. She suffered a lot during her marriage and I don't wish that on anyone, not even her."

She nods, her expression still doubtful. "I don't know whether it's true or not, but I hope you know what you're doing."

"It doesn't matter. All I care about is keeping the truth hidden. Now, let's talk about you and Carmella. She might send you more messages like these."

She rolls her eyes. "You mean when you fuck her?"

I clench my jaw and fist, feeling awful. "It doesn't necessarily have to be that, but what I want you to do is just ignore them. Don't even bother to respond."

"I don't intend on doing that."

I nod, holding my breath for a certain question. "Are we good now?"

She pouts, looking all the way to the other side. "I don't know."

I chuckle in amusement.

"It just really bothered me that you were talking to everyone over the phone except me."

My amusement fades as I think about it. "I know. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I felt awful. That's why I stayed away and ended up going to the hotel."

"What? You weren't with Carmella for two days?" She rises to her feet with raised eyebrows.

"No. I left around 5 p.m. on the same day I went to see her and was even back in town. It's just that I didn't come back home right away."

My explanation makes Vanessa smile a little, something that makes me believe I'm making great progress with her.

"Here's something you need to understand," I say to her as I step forward and look down at her. "You're pregnant and I don't want you stressing in any way or having anything upset you. I won't risk anything happening to this pregnancy, which is why I wanted to make you feel better about all this and I'm glad it worked."

She looks away with crossed arms. "Keep telling yourself that."

I know she's still trying to act tough and that only amuses me even more.

The more I stare at her face, the more I struggle to fight the urge to drop my gaze to the rest of her figure and to stop that from happening, I tell myself that the best thing right now is not to have her in front of me.

"Now that my task here is done, I should go," I say to her.

"What? Go where?" Her eyes widen as she looks at me.

"I need to go back home. This is your time to be alone with Mia and you're still having fun. I don't want to get in the way of that, so I'm leaving."

"But... you can always leave tomorrow."

Her gaze softens and I try not to get lost in it so I look away.

"There's no need to stay. I'm actually meeting up with Frank around 9 p.m. and a few other friends. I still have time to make it back, so I should go."

She sighs, nodding lightly as she approaches the door.

As soon as she holds out her hand to hold onto the doorknob, I rush over so I can do it first, but my hand ends up on top of hers as she holds the doorknob.

I've always taken great pleasure in hearing her respond the way she does when I touch her waist, but that time is in the past as I don't see her ever letting me touch her again, not with everything that's going on with her father.

I finally drop my hands and we both straighten up then continue down the stairs as she follows behind me.

Just as we approach the bottom step, Mia emerges from the other side with a smile.

"Hey, lovebirds. Is everything okay between you two now?"

I smile, reaching for Vanessa's hand and pulling her close to me. "Everything's great. Isn't that right, baby?"

Vanessa instantly blushes and I can't tell if it's because Mia's here or if that actually had an effect on her but whatever the case, it makes me chuckle.

Looking back at Mia, I say, "I'm leaving now."

She frowns. "Why leave so soon? Please stay until tomorrow."

"No. This is your time alone. I just wanted to talk to my wife and make things right. Now that it's done, I'll see her back home." I then face Vanessa while still holding her hand and say, "You can have my wife for now but tomorrow, she's all mine."

Mia giggles and it's only now that I realize I said that out loud and it sounded suggestive.

To my surprise, Vanessa blushes again as she looks away, making me feel less awkward.

With our fingers intertwined, I reach for my jacket and we walk past Mia then stop at the door.

I then turn to face Vanessa as I say, "I'll call you when I get home."

She nods, her eyes locked on mine with a deep exhale. "Have a safe flight."

Even with Mia watching, I lean forward for a kiss and Vanessa closes her eyes right away, something that only fuels my desire even more. Our lips then meet in a passionate kiss and she wraps her arms around my neck, something that I didn't expect.

Mia's footsteps retreat all the way to the other room just to give us some privacy and as soon as I'm certain she's far away, my tongue reaches deeper into Vanessa as my hands stroke her waist. She moans against my lips and that just makes me lose control, so I lift her and place her back right against the wall with a longing I've never felt for her before.
