"Yeah. You are Kane's father, after all." Aurelia stated in a tone so casual, it was as if she was commenting on the weather.

It disappointed him, "Is that all I am to you?"

She shrugged, “What else? You're Megan's husband now. If we didn't have a kid, I wouldn't have to worry about you at all. It wouldn't be any of my business"

A hint of hurt flickered in his eyes. Her emotional balance never seemed to tip even slightly more in his favor.

“Heartless woman; he muttered under his breath.

She let out a mocking laugh, “All the women who do well in this world are heartless. Being love-struck only invites disaster."

Leopold felt helpless.

Between them lay a chasm, a mist that kept them from truly connecting.

It was all because of that damn Megan. If not for her, Aurelia wouldn't be so distant from him.

The next day after work, Aurelia took William over to Skyler's place.

He was in the backyard, tending to his garden.

“William, look, these are the flowers Orchid that I planted."

"That's fantastic. Soon this yard will be a beautiful garden" Aurelia said with a beaming smile, holding a tray of snacks.

After washing his hands, Skyler joined William in a snack.

Taking a sip of her yogurt, Aurelia mentioned offhandedly, “Skyler, I hear you have a Ph.D. in psychology."

"Deep hypnosis can result in sleepwalking-like states, but it's no easy feat. It's very difficult. However, hypnosis can be used to treat sleepwalking,’ Skyler explained.

Aurelia laughed, "I’ve seen movies where hypnotists are super powerful, putting people under anywhere, anytime, even on a timer."

William butted in, "Mom, that's just movies."

She smiled sheepishly, "I just think it's super cool, like having the world in your hands."

“Only the most top-tier hypnotist can reach that level. Someone who can do that, there's probably only one person in the world, Skyler said, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"Who?" Aurelia quickly asked.

Skyler leisurely let out a few words, "My brother Geoffrey."

Aurelia gasped.

To her, Geoffrey was a phantom figure, often spoken of by Skyler, elusive and almost mystical.
