Chapter 580
"I'll eat after you're gone."
"Seriously, you want me to leave?" His arm, coiled around her waist, hadn't slackened in the slightest, betraying his reluctance to part.
He had hoped to curl up in bed with his wife that night.
Aurelia did want to send him packing, yet the thought of him leaving to be with Megan soured her mood.
"You're such a jerk!"
He carved a piece of the steak, bringing it to her lips with a teasing gesture. " You can call me whatever you want as long as you stop being in a sulk"
Aurelia couldn't help being mad, but his tender gestures corked her anger, trapping it inside, tormenting her.
“I'm not without options, you know. I've got a lineup of suitors, and any of them would treat me better than you do. They're all nicer to me than you are"
That stung Leopold. He could take it that he did not measure up to Arnold but couldn't accept it when being deemed lower than Elvis!
"Really? Am I that bad?"
“What do you think?” She snorted, attributing all her anguish to him.
A pang of icy dread pressed on Leopold's heart. "If I wasn't around one day, wouldn't you miss me even a little?"
Aurelia laughed off his words without understanding their weight.
"If you're not around, it just means you're off sleeping around with some other woman. Why on earth would I miss you? Do you think I'm a masochist?"
Leapold's eyes drooped, a wry smile forming. He had fallen for her first, after all.
In the game of love, the first to fall is the first to lose.
“It seems the only way to prove I'm not fooling around is to stick by your side each day as clear evidence of my fidelity."
Aurelia glanced petulantly at him, biting into the steak. She turned her frustration into appetite.
Just then, Leopold's phone rang. It was Megan.
“Honey, are you in your room? I want to move into your room and sleep together."
Leopold frowned. “You haven't gotten rid of that hex yet. Stop being foolish. I'm in a meeting. Don't disturb me."
He had been in the middle of a game with William.
William's eyes flickered. "My mom's not here. She's gone for a walk on the beach."
Megan was slightly stunned, quessing Aurelia might be with Leopold.
The bodyguards arrived, ready to escort her back to her room. Seizing the opportunity, she said, "I'm going to take a walk on the beach. I'll be back later."
With that, she headed for the elevators.
A sly glint passed through William's eyes as he took Skyler’s hand. "Skyler, let's go to the beach, too."
"Okay; Skyler nodded.
The two boys followed Megan with their bodyguards in tow.
Back in the room, Aurelia watched through the peephole as Megan left and felt secretly relieved.
"Mr. Leopold, you'd better return to your room. If your wife can't find you, she'll come charging me with accusations.” She had no desire to clash with Megan. Out of sight, out of mind.
Leopold was a bit irritable. “No rush. She won't be back soon."
