A chunk of glacial ice seemed to drift past, pressing heavily against Leopold’s heart, causing an icy chill to pierce his very being.

Aurelia walked into her son’s room. “From now on, Mommy will move into your room and sleep with you. Is that okay?” 

“Sure.” Kane nodded, reaching out his little hand to grip hers. “Mommy, are you angry with Daddy?”

Kane snuggled into her arms. “Mommy, you won’t leave me, right?”

After Kane fell asleep, Aurelia poured herself a glass of milk and stepped out onto the balcony.

Leopold wandered onto the balcony, his low voice cutting through the dark night. “I’ll take care of Kane. You don’t need to worry about him.” 

Aurelia scoffed. “Can I trust your words anymore?”

“Whether you agree or not, this marriage is over. There’s no use in struggling ”

“Years ago, Jessica fought off Magnolia to protect you and her marriage. I can do the 

same.”
