Just then, her phone buzzed with a video call from her mother. 

Quickly gathering her thoughts, she answered, “Mom, I’m in another city. Avery’s shooting a movie here, I came to visit.” 

“Is Avery with you?” Jolin Hawthorne asked. 

“No, he has a dinner tonight with the producer and director. Life in entertainment industry comes with a lot of socializing.” 

“Do these events cost a lot of money?” Jolin asked with a hint of concern. After all, there was no extra money at home to support their son. 

Aurelia instinctively glanced at the man across from her and stood up, moving a bit away. 

“He’s signed with an agency, they naturally invest in him. These events are company–sponsored, so he doesn’t have to pay. And my job is going pretty well, I’ve been covering his expenses, so you don’t have to 

worry.” 

Leopold leaned back in his chair, watching her with a somber expression. 

He couldn’t hear what she was saying, but he was certain it was about money. 

Was she purposely moving away because she felt guilty? 

Jolin seemed relieved after hearing her daughter’s words. 

“Aurelia, don’t spend all your money on Avery, save some for yourself. You’re not getting any younger, and you can get yourself a partner.” 

Aurelia smiled, “Mom, consider this an investment. Once Avery hits it big, do you think I’ll lack for anything?” Her comment made Jolin laugh, “Alright, go eat. When Avery comes back, have him call me.” 

“Okay.” 

After hanging up, Aurelia returned to the table. 

Leopold poured her a glass of juice, “Is your child support enough?” 

She was taken aback for a moment and then laughed awkwardly, “Of course.” 

If she could become a director, her salary would double, and with bonuses, she would be able to repay him. 

Just as she was thinking this, she heard Leopold’s voice across the table, “Isn’t it better to be a CEO’s wife than a director? Could a director make as much money?” 

She took a sip of her juice, looking at him seriously, “One is money I earned through hard work, the other is given by someone else. How could they be the same?” 

Leopold raised an eyebrow, was this her last act of defiance? 

“Actually, having someone give you money is a skill in itself.” 

Aurelia remained silent. 

He was the kind of person who only cared about the result, not the process. 

Her eyes swirled with a mischievous glint. Leaning in slightly, she lowered her voice, her words intended only for his ears, “Mr. Leopold, have you forgotten that I’m already your wife? Even if our marriage is al
