Chapter 220
With his mind made up, Kris stormed down the stairs, his rage evidenced by the heavy thumps of his steps.
In the living room, Karen was still crying with her head bowed in shame as Aunt Cynthia, Susan and Tyler threw every insult at her.
Kris didn’t bother to stop. Stepping outside, his hands trembled as he got into his car, slamming the door shut. He didn’t bother glancing back at the house. The moment he jammed the key into the ignition, he was gone.
The drive to Henry’s company blurred into a haze of fury. His knuckles turned white against the steering wheel.
Pulling into the parking lot, he sat for a moment, staring at the building. It wasn’t large, and it compared in no way to Kris’s company.
How ironic, Kris thought bitterly. Over the years, Henry had constantly needed help, soliciting financial assistance from both him and Alden. Kris had written off most of the loans for the sake of their ‘friendship’.
Now, all he could see was how Henry had been taking advantage of him, using him for money while stabbing him in the back.
Shoving open the car door, Kris stormed toward the entrance. He made his way into one of the elevators and punched the button for Henry’s floor. By the time the doors opened to Henry’s office floor, Kris’s hands were balled into fists so tight that he was afraid he could never straighten them.
The secretary looked up and recognized him immediately. “Mr. Miller, good to see you.”
“Tell your boss I want to see him.” Kris demanded in a tone that was too low not to be dangerous.
The secretary flashed him a small smile. “I’m sorry but Mr. Fitz is in a meeting right now. If you’d like to wait for a—”
“Tell him I’m here to see him,” Kris repeated, his voice sharper now.
She blinked, taken aback by his tone. “Like I said, he’s in a small meeting—”
Before she could finish talking, Kris stormed past her desk and headed straight for Henry’s office door. The secretary jumped up, calling after him, but he didn’t stop. He flung the door open, the force of it hitting the wall with a loud bang.
Inside, Henry was seated across from an older man who looked just as startled as Henry when they saw Kris barging in. Henry’s expression shifted from surprise to annoyance as he shot to his feet.
“Kris? What the hell—”
He didn’t get a chance to finish. Kris stormed across the room, grabbed him by the collar, and smashed his fist into Henry’s mouth. The impact was brutal, sending Henry back into his chair, groaning in pain. Blood instantly spurted from Henry’s busted lip.
“You fucking traitor!” Kris growled, his voice shaking with fury.
Henry wiped his mouth, spitting blood onto the floor as he pushed himself up. “What the fuck is wrong with you, man?!”
The guards held him back, dragging him toward the elevator. Kris thrashed against their grip, his bloodied knuckles aching from the assault, but the rage inside him was still far from satisfied.
Once he realized fighting of the security guards wasn’t yielding any result, Kris dragged in deep breaths to calm himself down.
When the elevator finally stopped and opened its doors, the security men hauled Kris into the lobby, and everyone around turned to stare at him.
Suddenly, the front door opened, and a group of police officers hurried into the lobby. One of them stepped forward, his hand resting on his holster.
“We received a call about an assault,” he said, his eyes narrowing on Kris due to his dishevelled appearance.
Before Kris could respond, the secretary came rushing out of another elevator, her face pale and shaking.
“It’s him!” she cried, pointing at Kris. “He’s the one who attacked Mr. Fitz! He—he’s all bloody, and he’s not even breathing! I think he killed him!”
One for the officers rushed off with the secretary while the other's expression hardened as he turned back to Kris, immediately pulling out his handcuffs as well as his pistol.
“Sir, you’re under arrest for aggravated assault and the possible murder of Henry Fitz.”
