Chapter 495 Intense Feelings
Claire's razor-sharp eyes fell on Cayden, and she studied him carefully. She could not help but sigh. This young man is indeed outstanding.
The other men were dressed in suits. Cayden, on the other hand, was wearing a white shirt with casual black pants. Yet, his casual dress sense was unable to conceal his natural elegant temperament.
He exuded a posh, yet aloof aura. In fact, he was so bewitching that one would be spellbound just looking at him.
Cayden was truly a man who was capable of mesmerizing most women. His calm and cool exterior belied his powerful and domineering aura, causing others to be attracted to him.
That, however, did not mean that he could lie to her daughter.
Nicole was blinded by love at the moment. A response from Cayden meant the world to her.
Unfortunately, Claire did not see any hint of love for Nicole in Cayden's eyes.
"Mrs. Lambert," Cayden greeted the woman as he walked over. He was taken aback by the similar aura she had with Avery when he saw her.
As he linked arms with Nicole, he stuffed his hand in his pocket, exuding an air of casual elegance instead of impoliteness.
"Mr. Moore, please don't mind me asking, but I wonder if you have tied up all loose ends with Ms. Rumpley on the day of your engagement banquet? Nickie is my one and only daughter. She's still young and doesn't understand certain things. But, as her mother, I have to be responsible for her life," said Claire with a friendly smile, but the cold look in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.
It was as if she was testing him.
Nicole tightened her grip on Cayden's arm.
Mom is an intelligent woman. She should be able to tell that I'm determined to be with Cayden from the way I brought him here to attend Grandma's birthday banquet. What's wrong with her today? Cayden has finally agreed to go out with me, and now Mom is making things difficult for us. What is she trying to do?
"Mom, just let bygones be bygones. Why are you bringing it up? Since Cayden has decided to be with me, I'm sure he would settle everything. I love him, and he's willing to be with me. That's enough for me. Furthermore, no one can predict the future. Who knows what will happen?"
Nicole then smiled at Claire before nudging the man, saying coyly, "Cayden, quick, explain to my mom."
Cayden kept his gaze lowered. As such, Nicole could not see his expression and did not know what he was thinking about.
Biting the bullet, she urged, "Cayden..."
Cayden remained silent and pursed his good-looking lips.
The man's silence was making Nicole anxious, for she desperately wanted his protection and assurance to prove to her mother that they would make things work. Claire would definitely disapprove of their relationship if Cayden ended up pissing her off.
Naturally, Claire could sense that something was amiss.
This man isn't even willing to put on a perfunctory act with my daughter. How can I entrust Nickie to him?
She could not help but mock, "Mr. Moore, if you are sincere about dating Nickie, please prove it to me. If not "
Before Claire could finish her sentence, Cayden cut her off with his deep, magnetic voice. "Mrs. Lambert, no matter what I say, I doubt you will believe me."
Avery took a tissue and wiped the tears off Blake's face. "Grandpa, given your age, you shouldn't cry, you know? Your eyesight is already bad, and shedding tears will only worsen your condition. Look at me. I'm fine now."
Blake caressed Avery's leg which was wearing a cast and said sadly, "Ery, you wouldn't have gotten into a car accident if it weren't for me. You're still so young. Why do you have to go through such a tragic accident? I wish the accident happened to me instead. I don't have much time left anyway-"
Avery quickly cut him off, "Grandpa, what nonsense are you talking about? Do you want me to feel guilty for the rest of my life? Please don't say such things in the future. Okay?"
"Okay. I understand," promised Blake as he wiped his tears.
Avery glanced at Blake's dispirited demeanor before turning to Alina and asking worriedly, "Aunt Allie, what exactly is wrong with Grandpa's health? I thought he was fine a couple of days ago. Why did he fall ill all of a sudden? Have you taken him to the doctor? Grandpa, are you feeling better now?"
At the mention of his illness, Blake sighed. "It's nothing serious. Alina was making a fuss about nothing. The doctor told me that I have been wearing my shorts a little too high. In the future, I'll wear my shorts lower."
Avery was dumbstruck and turned to look at Alina in confusion.
Will wearing shorts too high up cause an elderly man to fall ill? What's going on?
Alina looked at her niece's dubious expression and chuckled. She then explained to Avery, "It has nothing to do with his shorts. A few days ago, I was busy working in the office, so I sent Father to the hospital first. The doctor explained his condition, but his memory isn't good. When he told me what the doctor told him, I couldn't understand what he meant by wearing his shorts too high. In the end, I went to the hospital to visit the doctor personally. Turns out his hearing isn't good and misheard the doctor when the doctor told him that his cholesterol level is too high."
Avery was rendered speechless.
Grandpa is so funny!
