One phone call, and Scott was gone.

Juliana didn’t even get the chance to ask him to stay. She just watched as he rushed out, desperate to get to Sandy.

This time, she didn’t fall apart or sob like before. Instead, Juliana lay back on the hospital bed, staring up at the ceiling, letting the memories of her marriage drift through her mind.

It took her slitting her wrists just to get him to visit, but when the other woman called, he dropped everything and ran. Juliana had never felt so utterly defeated.

After a few silent minutes, she pulled the IV from her hand and left the hospital.

She hailed a cab and headed straight to the Salstrom house.

At home, Anastasia was playing games with her kids. Nancy was in a great mood, kicking a ball around with her mom. A housekeeper came over and said, “Ma’am, Mrs. Stranz is here.”

“Which Mrs. Stranz?” Anastasia asked, caught off guard. She couldn’t think of anyone by that name who’d come looking for her.

“It’s me.” Juliana stepped inside. “Anastasia.”

Anastasia was surprised. She barely knew Juliana, and with all the drama about Juliana and Scott’s divorce, this visit made no sense at all.

She told her daughter and son to keep playing, then went to meet Juliana in the living room.

She got right to it. “So, what brings you here?”

“I’m here to call in a favor,” Juliana said. “If you help me win Scott back, I’ll let go of what happened with the baby.”

Anastasia blinked. “First off, your miscarriage had nothing to do with me. Second, why do you think I could convince Scott to come back?”

She hardly knew Scott, and she certainly wasn’t about to meddle in someone else’s marriage.

“Anastasia, you’re the only one who can help me.” Out of nowhere, Juliana dropped to her knees beside Anastasia. “Please. I’m begging you.”
