Chapter 12 

I woke up to a gentle tap on my cheek. I moved the hand away in my face and groaned, “Let me sleep,” I muttered irritably, as I extended my arms to touch something, only to realize it wasn’t as soft as a pillow. Slowly, I felt around, wondering if it was a pillow or were these ribs I was touching? T raised my hand, is this a neck? It didn’t feel like my neck either.

I opened my eyes and glanced beside me. Oh my goodness! A wave of embarrassment washed over me as I realized I had my head resting on his shoulder. 

He looked at me coldly, his jaw tensing, I quickly moved away from him and adjusted my posture. 

I wish I could just disappear right now. Why did I fall asleep and start dreaming that I was in my room? “Sorry,” I mumbled softly to him. 

“We’re here,” he said icely, and he was the first to exit, leaving me behind. 

I covered my face with my hands and internally screamed. Why did this have to happen? I didn’t know how to face or talk to him tomorrow. I stayed in the car for a few minutes before getting out, following the path he had taken until I reached the back door. 

He was really mad, and who wouldn’t after what I did. I let out a sigh of relief knowing the door wasn’t locked. Consequently, I walked into the hallway, then made my way to the stairs. It was eerily quiet inside. 

And I entered my room. My phone vibrated, and when I checked, I saw three missed calls from Steven and five from Abigail, who was currently calling me. 

I answered the call and opened the door to the walk–in closet, which was almost empty. “Lili, are you okay?” Abigail’s concerned voice came through the phone. It was already 2 AM, and it seemed like she had woken p and read my text. 

“I’m fine,” I replied I was tired of thinking right now and just wanted to sleep. I yawned, 

“Sorry, Lili. I just read your text. Have you been to the hospital! I’ll come over if you still need a ride.” 

I left to get what I needed and headed to the bathroom. “I already went earlier. Your cousin gave me a ride, and he also brought me back.”

Abigail briefly visited to check on me and Mom’s condition. After she left, I didn’t expect a food delivery to arrive for me.
