Isaac's touch grew softer, a smile in his voice, "I'll be happy with either a boy or a girl."
As long as it's Brittany's.
Brittany clung to his neck while Isaac chuckled lowly, pulling her into a loving embrace.
By the end of their kiss, Brittany seemed to struggle for breath, her small hands pressing against his chest, gasping, "I can't."
Isaac gently pressed her lips, calming the rising storm of emotions, "Feeling sleepy?"
"No."
"Then stay with me a while longer, I just need to finish up some paperwork."
Being busy was one reason, but being around her, he always found himself wanting more, needing to cool off.
Worried Brittany might feel cold, Isaac turned up the heating and went back to fetch a lightweight blanket and some snacks to place on the table.
Brittany leaned on the sofa, scrolling through her phone, keeping Isaac company as he worked.
When Nathan entered with some documents, he was met with this heartwarming scene that had been absent for far too long, his emotions stirred.
"Mr. Salter, ma'am."
Brittany and Nathan exchanged greetings, "Should I leave?"
"No need."
Isaac signaled for Nathan to proceed, and Nathan, accustomed to their ways, proceeded without embarrassment.
Brittany barely listened, her attention fixed on her phone.
After Nathan reported on the work and left, closing the door behind him, he overheard the butler discussing last night's events. Kari had visited.
It had been half a year since their last encounter.
Nathan could hardly recall what Kari had said to him, only that she was now with Ronald and they seemed happy together.
Nathan sighed to himself, knowing well that their chapter had ended long ago.
...
When Kari woke up again, Ronald was already awake.
Feeling refreshed, she struggled to sit up, only to wince at a sharp pain in her waist.
Approaching the dining area, Kari heard the sound of water.
Ronald, a fitness enthusiast, maintained an impressively fit physique even in his thirties, with strong, muscular arms and legs.
Kari walked up behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist, "You said this is our marital home, but how did you know your future wife would love French decor?"
Ronald, rinsing strawberries, handed her one after plucking off the leaf, "You mentioned as a child that you liked French decor."
The sweet and tangy strawberry filled her mouth, a pleasant reminder of her past.
His words softened Kari's heart, "How did you know we'd end up together?"
Back when he had been preparing this marital home, they hadn't even reconnected.
"And if we hadn't ended up together, what were you planning to do with this house?"
Ronald dried his hands, turning to face her, "Then this house would have been your dowry."
He had indeed thought that far ahead.
"Well, now it's settled. This house will become our home."
