Brittany flipped through the file for only a few seconds before slamming it shut. “Are you threatening me?”
She should have known better. At his core, Eltham was a madman.
Eltham took her hand. “As long as you go through with the procedure, none of this information will ever see the light of day... If you refuse, then Isaac's crime will be exposed. Even though he's not from Craneville, committing a crime within its borders will lead to royal retribution!”
“Not to mention how A country will deal with him!”
Brittany clenched her teeth hard, finally bursting out, “You—”
“Bri, for his sake, and for ours, just agree, please.”
Shaking all over with rage, Brittany finally wrenched her hand away, her eyes red-rimmed. “You think by forcing me to get rid of my baby, I’d stay with you?”
“In your dreams!”
She should have known he hadn't changed; she never should have agreed to that dinner.
Eltham, with a deep look in his eyes, said, “Bri, time is running out.”
The butler escorted Brittany back to her room, where a maid helped her change into loose clothing before she was ushered into a car.
Eltham, who had been waiting, probably sensed her anxiety. “Don’t worry, I’ve arranged for the best doctor. You won’t feel a thing.”
Brittany turned her head away, unwilling to listen.
The taste of being coerced was unbearably bitter.
“If you’re so worried about me being in pain, why not just cancel the procedure?”
Eltham remained silent.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Brittany was led to the operating room.
Eltham, waiting outside, had even thoughtfully prepared some chicken soup. “When you’re out, have some to help you recover.”
“I’ve been learning to cook a lot lately. Tell me whatever you want to eat, and I’ll learn to make it.”
Brittany thought he was insane and brushed past him into the operating room.
It wasn’t Brittany’s first time in an operating room, but this was a first of a different kind.
Following the nurse’s instructions, she lay down on the operating table.
“He’s here.”
The nurse looked towards the newcomer, “Please, this way.”
As the door closed, Brittany turned her head only to be enveloped in a familiar embrace—
Isaac didn’t want to go either, pressing a fierce kiss to her lips before finally stepping back. “No matter what happens during this time, you must never doubt me, okay?”
Brittany let him go. “Okay.”
Isaac hurried away.
Brittany lay back down on the operating table, watching as time ticked by. The door to the operating room opened.
It was the doctor Eltham had arranged.
Brittany closed her eyes. Isaac had never lied to her. He said he had arranged everything, so it must be so.
Nothing could go wrong!
...
The door to the operating room closed.
Eltham waited outside, his blood boiling with anticipation. Once Brittany’s baby was out of the picture, nothing would stand between them!
His excitement was palpable.
Unexpectedly, his phone rang. It was the Queen.
