Chapter 16: Charlotte’s POV
When I arrived at Leonardo’s home, I see him walk off to talk to someone who oddly reminded me of Claire. Once at the door, I hear him say that he is Claire’s brother and introduces himself as Matthew. I didn’t know Claire had a brother and by the looks of it – he wasn’t welcome here. Leo tensed around
him.
I decide it better to use this opportunity to find out more about Matthew and Claire. If I wanted Leo, I had to make sure no one would stand in my way. So I roll my chair out from behind Leo and introduce myself to Matthew before asking him to join us
inside while we wait for Claire.
I sit by Matthew in my wheelchair and we begin conversing about his day. It didn’t take much to get him to open up about his reason for being here. He was a gambler. This was perfect!
So I offer for her to stay here in the house with Leo and I rather than having Matthew arrested for theft. Not because I want this wretched woman at my side but because I needed Leo to believe I needed her help and because the closer she was – the more I could plot out my scenarios to finalize in Leo hating her. I needed to make sure she would be of no threat “once I was able to walk again.”
I intended to have Leonard all to myself and I didn’t care who became collateral in my plan. Claire will be nothing more than an unwanted memory, Leo will be mine and I will take my rightful place at his side. The one where little Claire used to sit before she decided to move out.
I meant it when I said she was keeping my side of the bed warm with Leonardo. Whether she believed me or not was entirely up to her but I was more than serious when I said it. Soon I’d be back where I started – in MY Leo’s arms.
