Leo drove straight into the shopping center's underground parking lot. Soon after, the people tailing them arrived as well.
They watched as Max, Leo, and Paisley got out of the car and walked into the mall together.
Not wanting to miss anything suspicious, the lookouts quickly disguised themselves and followed. But to their surprise, the three of them really seemed to be shopping.
Max and Leo had stayed silent the whole way, but when they followed Paisley into a luxury boutique and even paid for a handbag she picked, they finally couldn't hold back.
"Ms. Sutton, don't forget why we're here," Max murmured, suppressing his confusion and urgency as he leaned closer to Paisley.
Walking ahead, Paisley looked every bit like a spoiled rich girl.
She casually pointed at the most prominently displayed handbag in the store. "That one. Let me see it."
The sales associate, noticing how well-dressed the three of them were, quickly retrieved the bag and handed it to Paisley with a respectful smile. "This is our brand's latest seasonal release. It's a global limited edition, and we only have two in stock."
Paisley held the bag and examined herself in the mirror.
She thought, 'Hmm. Not my style. But Emery would love it.'
She tossed the bag back to the sales associate. "Wrap it up."
The associate took the bag with a polite smile and asked, "Are you a member of our store, miss?"
Paisley shook her head. "No."
The associate's enthusiasm dimmed instantly. Her tone lost its earlier warmth. "Oh, this bag is only available to members. If you're not a member, you'll need to make an additional purchase."
Paisley didn't care. "Then add something to it."
The associate's eyes lit up and immediately brought out some overpriced, nearly unsellable items. "How about pairing it with these? Do any of these look good to you?"
Without even glancing at the items, Paisley turned to Max and said casually, "Pay for it."
Max frowned—not because of the money, but because he didn't understand what Paisley was doing.
He thought, 'Weren't we supposed to be looking for medicine? My adoptive father is still waiting back at the old mansion.'
Paisley subtly scanned the area while maintaining her relaxed smile. She arched an eyebrow at Max. "Still not paying?"
Leo frowned deeply, wanting to say something, but Max stopped him.
"Alright," Max said, looking at Paisley, and then ordered Leo, "Pay."
Leo's face was serious; he didn't understand what Paisley was doing.
'Is it possible that both Max and I are wrong about her?' he wondered.
'This woman is nothing but a gold-digging opportunist. Is she using the chance to treat Mr. Godard to blackmail Max into buying things for her? But that doesn't make sense. She has Cloud Crest Winery's vast assets behind her. She doesn't need this money, right?'
Leo's mind was filled with a thousand questions, yet he could only obediently follow the sales assistant to make the payment.
As the bag and other items were being packed, Paisley had already walked out of the store without looking back and headed toward another luxury shop across the street.
Just like that, Max and Leo followed Paisley all the way to the third store, with both big men almost unable to hold the shopping bags in their hands anymore.
