As soon as Scott headed out of his office, he saw the cute nurse on break as well. He put on a wide smile and walked up to her, "You just got off work too?"
"Uh-huh, Doctor Liu. You too?" the nurse responded to Scott with a gentle smile as she continued to walk in the opposite direction.
Scott decided it was now or never. He lightly jogged towards her and blocked her way. "Now that we're both off work, would you like to have dinner with me?"
Looking at him intently, she was torn for a second. "Sure," she said. "I have nowhere else to go anyway."
The next few days, Scott asked more and more doctors and nurses out on dates. He was very generous about it, too. The restaurants he chose were no less than five-star restaurants, while the clubs he had taken them to were exclusive and luxurious.
Eventually, the word got around that Scott was having a little fun with the co-workers. People began gossiping, mostly about Scott's money. When did he strike it rich?
Upon entering his office, a colleague greeted him with a smirk. "Doctor Liu," he said. "You've been very generous lately!"
Scott saw the look on his face and knew what he meant. "I mean, I'm still single. I wouldn't mind finding someone from the building. Plus, there'll be a use for my money once I do."
"I second the motion," said his colleague as he motioned for a fist bump.
Scott just smiled and walked to his desk.
The two shared a laugh, then immediately went back to work.
Throughout the day, people wondered why Scott didn't ask anyone to dinner. He was on night shift, so there was no point.
The following day
Scott invited colleagues to dinner once again. This time, he targeted the younger, eye-catching nurses in the hospital.
One of these nurses, Cassie, had just gotten off work and was changing out of her uniform when her fellow nurse grabbed her arm. "Dinner is on Doctor Liu tonight. You down?" she asked hopefully.
"I'm gonna pass on tonight. Sorry, it's been a really tiring day," Cassie sighed. "I just want to head home and rest." Though Cassie rejected her colleague, she was pretty persistent.
Scott had invited other nurses, but she wasn't familiar with them. She was really hoping that Cassie would accompany her and save her from awkward conversations and boredom.
"Come on, Cassie. I'll be so bored if I go there by myself. Besides, we have the day off tomorrow!" She placed her hand on Cassie's shoulder and said, "Just come along and let loose with me! I promise we won't be out too late," She continued to persuade Cassie.
Cassie looked at her colleague intently and decided to just go with it. After all, Nick was working overtime tonight. She would have been home alone anyway.
"Alright, I'll go with you," she said giving in.
Her colleague was pleasantly surprised and reached for Cassie's hands. "You sure?"
"Well, if you don't want me to go. I can just head on home..." Cassie gestured towards the door to tease her.
"Hey, I'm just joking! Hurry up and change. I'll meet you downstairs!" Her colleague happily skipped away and left Cassie to change out of her uniform.
Shaking her head in amusement, Cassie dialed Nick's number as she walked towards the dressing room.
Nick answered her call very quickly.
"Nick, one of the doctors invited us to dinner tonight. I'll probably get home the same time as you. Call me when you get off work," she said gently.
Cassie realized she would have to walk past the hallway if she wanted to go to the bathroom. It seemed like a really bad time to do that.
After giving it a little thought, she decided to head back first, not wanting to interrupt them.
But once she turned around, Cassie heard Wade ask Scott in her sweetest voice, "Scott, why have you been so rich lately?"
"It's a secret. I can't tell you," Scott said mysteriously.
"Fine," said Wade admitting defeat. "Let's just head back to the table then." Wade shook off Scott's grip, pretending she was annoyed.
In an instant, Scott took her hands and held them firmly. He scanned the area for people nearby and when he realized it was clear, he leaned in closer to Wade's ear. "Do you remember Holley? She stayed at the hospital not too long ago."
"Your classmate?" she asked. She had no idea where this was going.
"Yes," replied Scott. "She was a bitch at school and nothing has changed." Scott wanted Wade to trust him, so he decided to tell her the truth. "You see, she lied about her pregnancy to marry some rich guy." He sighed. "She asked me to help her fake an abortion and promised to give me money to keep my mouth shut." He looked down at his shoes in embarrassment. "Wade, you're the only other person who knows this besides Holley and I. Please, please, don't tell anyone."
"Are you serious!?" gasped Wade, trying not to scream.
"Yes. But let's change the topic," pleaded Scott. "What do you think about taking a little vacation with me to Sanya?" Scott asked Wade hopefully.
This was the perfect distraction. Wade was thrilled with the idea of travelling.
She nodded in acceptance and buried her face in her hands, blushing. "You're crazy, Scott. I can't believe you would do such a thing!"
