The Apple of My Eye novel Chapter 1850

"I heard it from the finance department. I want the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) here. I'm going to ask the CFO whether I should report to him or not," Leila angrily said as she stared at the secretary. She slammed her hands on the desk so hard that the secretary jumped.

The secretary was frightened. She had started recently and was new to this job. If she slighted Leila, she could get fired, and she didn't want that to happen.

"Ms. Zhang, I'll do it right away. Please, don't be angry." The secretary stumbled out of Leila's office.

Leila wasn't as confident as she seemed to be. She wasn't really sure whether the CFO would let her get her way, but she had to act as if she was the boss around here.

The secretary then called the CFO.

The CFO was in a dilemma. Leila was in charge now, so he couldn't just ignore her, but five million wasn't a small number. It would breach company policy to transfer the money to her personal account. Leila had claimed that she needed to strike a deal with one of the clients in order to correct a project. That made sense as well.

After contemplating for a long while, he finally agreed.

"All right. Please, come to my office. We need to follow the proper procedures." The CFO didn't want to cross Leila. After all, Melissa liked Leila. If Charles didn't come back, Leila would probably end up in charge. The CFO had no choice but to give in to what Leila wanted.

The secretary heaved a sigh of relief after receiving the go signal from the CFO. She was afraid he'd say no, and she'd have to take the blame for it.

"Thank you, so much. I'm coming in a minute." After she hung up the call, she briskly walked to the finance department.

When they'd signed all the forms, she thought of transferring the money via a bank; however, she figured that it might be slow, so she opted for a check instead.

"Knock! Knock!"

"Please, come in!" Leila sat up when she saw it was her secretary.

"Ms. Zhang, it might take time if we transfer the money through the bank. Is it all right if we use a check instead?" The secretary was a bit worried because she had decided on something without first getting Leila's approval.

Leila raised her head and nodded.

The secretary then placed the check on Leila's desk and left.

Leila picked up the check and thought to herself, 'If Melissa finds out about this, I don't know what I could say to her. Anyway, I don't have to worry about that for now. Maybe, Charles is gone for good. In that case, I don't have to worry about Melissa anymore.'

She smiled at the thought of this. She called up her private detective so he could pick up his check.

Once the private detective was paid, he found the information Leila anxiously wanted in the span of only half a day—Charles was in Malaysia

"Are you sure? Did you see him with your own eyes?" Leila's heart was palpitating when she was informed of this.

'How could he have been so lucky? How could he possibly have survived?' she thought to herself.

"Yes of course. I know Charles! I'm 100% sure." The private detective swore to Leila that he had indeed found Charles.

Leila nodded, seemingly deep in thought. After a pause, she spoke, "I need his location. That's going to be my last task for you. You can go home afterward."

"Since we go way back, I'll give you a discount, but Charles is a public figure, so my price for a job like this is quite steep," he said seriously.

Gritting her teeth, Leila said, "Ten million."

"Deal!"

Hugo's face broke into an evil smile. He then discussed with Leila more details about the job and asked for a down payment.

Leila was relieved once she'd paid the down payment. Luckily, he didn't ask for a higher amount. The number was higher than she'd expected, but she still considered it a fair deal, and she could afford it.

Meanwhile, in the Malaysian Hotel, David was busy with the task that Charles had assigned him.

Charles was alone in his hotel room.

He'd been feeling anxious this past couple of days. He just wanted to go home and be with Sheryl again. More than anything, he just wanted to hold her in his arms and tell her that he loved her. However, he knew that this wasn't the time yet. He had to be patient.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Charles slowly made his way to the door. He couldn't help but wonder who could possibly be visiting him now. "Who is it?" he asked.

"It's me."
