"Okay. I'll update you as soon as I get it," Leila said, keeping her face stoic. Even though she'd already come to an agreement with Holley, she still had a plan of her own.
"Alright. I'll wait for your good news." Holley hadn't expected Leila to agree so easily so she was excited.
"Goodbye." Leila then hung up the phone.
Leila grabbed her cellphone, with hatred flashing in her eyes. She mumbled to herself, "Holley, do you think I'm an idiot? Shining Company is mine. Why the hell would I give you a good project? Are you insane?"
As she thought of this, she chuckled. She couldn't believe how ignorant Holley was.
Meanwhile, Holley had no idea about any of this. All she knew was that Leila had agreed to help her.
Leila sat at her table for a while, deep in thought. She was thinking of how she could deal with Holley once and for all.
She smiled upon thinking of this. The following day, she pretended she'd accidentally sent Holley the bottom price of Shining Company.
When Holley got Leila's text, she was ecstatic. As she looked at the number, she finally decided.
"Leila, thank you so much. If we can get this project, I can share some of the profit with you," Holley texted back.
When Leila received Holley's response, she laughed maniacally and shook her head. "Really, Holley? You're going to share some of the profit with me? How much will you give me? Will you give me more than what Shining Company can give me?"
After getting the bottom price, Holley called Ferry again.
Ferry didn't expect that Holley would finish this job so quickly. She was able to get the price in just a day!
"Are you waiting for your reward?" Ferry was annoyed when he realized that Holley still hadn't hung up.
Holley was taken aback. She realized she'd been careless, so she quickly explained, "I didn't mean it that way, but the auction's in two days and the capital..."
Holley quietly waited for Ferry to respond.
Ferry thought this over, and then he said slowly, "Didn't I tell you to just contact my assistant? I thought I made that clear to you, or are you just looking for an excuse to get close to me?"
Ferry's tone was playful, in the sense that made Holley tremble in fear. She didn't have the courage to retort.
"I didn't mean it. I just wanted to tell you. Since you already know, I'm just going to contact your assistant for the capital," Holley explained quickly. She heaved a sigh of relief after she spoke.
Ferry didn't want to talk about it anymore. He didn't say anything else since he was busy too. He just mumbled something before hanging up the phone.
After Ferry hung up, Holley felt restless. She thought things had gone too smoothly, and she had a bad feeling about it.
"Holley Ye, you'd better get this project, or you're going to suffer."
Ferry's words still resounded in Holley's ears, even after he'd hung up. Even though he wasn't anywhere near Holley, she still felt a chill run down her spine. After a while, she snapped out of her daze.
She then called Ferry's assistant. She was only able to relax after she'd gotten the money.
While they were having dinner, Leila made sure she took care of Melissa by putting food on her plate. She tried her best to make Melissa happy.
"Leila, if you don't mind, I'm going to bed now. Good night." Melissa went straight to bed after supper, since she was very tired and it was already getting late.
"Okay, Aunt Melissa. Sleep well."
Leila smiled as she watched Melissa head upstairs. As soon as Melissa disappeared, she replaced the smile on her face with a scowl.
Leila thought no one had noticed this, but Nancy did. At first, Nancy thought she'd just misread the scowl on Leila's face. Even though she didn't like Leila, she'd figured Leila really loved Charles and thus sincerely cared for Melissa. So why was Leila being fake towards Melissa?
Nancy thought about this for a while; however, she couldn't figure it out. In the end, she just dismissed it as something she'd misread.
On the day of the project auction
When Leila and Holley arrived at the venue, they discreetly nodded at each other as if they didn't know each other.
When Holley saw the look on Leila's face, she knew her last-minute decision was right.
After talking to Leila over the phone that day, Holley had decided to add 50 million to the bottom price of the Tarsan corporation. The final price would now be at 1.2 billion.
Holley figured this was perfectly fine.
