I realize I’ve heard every one of these names from Christian. Sebastiana, Alpha Sebastian, and Alpha Christina. These are the elite of the elite who teach at the Academy. I’m not sure if that makes me more excited or more nervous about this semester. My sister made the leaderboard with less than six months of preparation to attend. Tiana has been training for the Academy her entire life. But neither of them are Alpha heirs.

I can’t afford to fail. Enya went to the Academy because she made a deal with Christian. If she had failed, it would have been disappointing for her, but it wouldn’t have been detrimental for anyone else. For me, failure means that I’ve not only let myself down, but I will also have let Christian down as well as my pack

Alpha Dane goes through the roles of the assistants and basically lets all of us know that if we, in any way, demean their mates, we’ll answer to them.

When we order drinks, both Ryan and Dane chuckle “Christian got to you too, huh?” Ryan asks.

“And Tiana. She likes her whiskey too But yeah, whiskey talks are a pretty common event in my pack now

“Tiana?” Ryan asks, frowning

“That’s what I call Sebastiana.”

“Do I need to worry that you have a nickname for my little sister?” he asks.

“If Christian, Alpha Sebastian, and Alpha Christina aren’t worried, then I don’t think you have anything to worry about.” I say.

“Sebi already petitioned to be partners with Shane.” Dane tells him.

“Why am I not surprised. That was a bold move.” Ryan says, taking a sip of his own drink. It’s so similar to Alpha Sebastian and Christian that it makes me smile. I hide it behind my own sip of whiskey.

“That would be bold for anyone else. But you know how Hurricane Sebastiana is. She petitioned for them to be partners nearly two years ago.” Dane says.

Ryan whistles, looking at me more intently: “You must have made quite an impression.

“I came into my life when things were at their lowest for me. We developed a friendship from

there.

“She’s coming to the Academy this semester?” Cassandra asks.

“She is,” I say. “She’s getting on at the next train station.”

“I can’t wait to meet her. She sounds interesting.”

Dane and Ryan laugh, but I just nod.

“That she most definitely is”

Sebastiana

When Enya and Christian arrived. I was so excited I never expected to be nervous about going to the Academy. But now that it’s my last night at home. I find myself feeling practically nauseous with anticipation. Knowing that my bestie and sister is coming helped to keep me calm. She recently returned from the Academy, and I know I can talk to her about how I’m feeling. She and I talked about her own anxiety before she left a year ago

However, when they arrive, she and Christian have their own news to share. I’m excited for them, I really am. but I’m struggling to focus on the baby talk while I’m fighting my own unexpected

I watch while Enya and Mom talk excitedly about baby showers, baby names, baby furniture, baby clothes, baby everything. Dad is smiling proudly, obviously excited to have another grandbaby in his future.

As I watch, a glass is held in front of me. I can smell the whiskey, and I look up to see Christian.

“Come talk with me,” he says softly.
