“What curriculum are you taking?” he asks as Harper brings us our drinks.
We thank her and I turn back to Lorenzo.
“I’m taking the Warrior curriculum and the Pack Management,” I say, taking a sip. It’s the exact brand that Christian drinks. I feel another wave of sadness, knowing I won’t be having any drinks with him for months, but swallow my tears down again. I’m not going to cry in my first hour on the train.
He studies me over his drink as he takes a sip. “Sooo, does that mean you’re taking the sex class?”
I sigh. “I’m signed up for it, but I’m not sure if I’m going to take it now.”
“Do you mind me asking why?”
“It’s kind of embarrassing,” I say.
“I won’t say anything, Alpha’s honor,” he says.
“Well, I didn’t want to come to the Academy as a virgin, so I asked Christian to be

my first.”
“And I’m guessing, since he’s number one on the leaderboard that he was fantastic?”
I nod and his eyes narrow.
“And you fell in love.” It’s not a question.
I nod. “Stupid, right?”
“That depends. Do you think he’s your mate?”
“I don’t know. I won’t know until one week after I get back. But what I do know is the thought of anyone touching me, or being with someone else, holds absolutely no appeal to me.”
“You should talk to Alpha Dane or Luna Harper. They’re his aunt and uncle, right? Plus, if you want to trade out your class, they’d be the ones to help you.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right.”

“Well, not that I want to try my hand against number one on the leaderboard, but if you change your mind, we seem to get along. As of right now, I know you better than anyone else on this train, so I’d be willing to partner with you,” he says, leaning forward. “I don’t have a lot of experience either. My father was something of a dog when he was younger and he’s drilled it into my head since I was young to be very careful and discerning about my sex partners.”
“I’ll take it under advisement.”
“Good, so tell me about yourself,” he says.
The rest of the evening goes by more quickly than I would have expected. At dinner, I spend time talking to the other Alphas and the instructors, getting a feel for what to expect at the Academy. It’s obvious that the instructors all get along very well and there is limitless teasing about things that have happened in the past or will happen in this coming semester.
I’m asked multiple times about Christian and what it’s like being trained by someone who is number one on the leaderboard.
“Well, if I’m not mistaken, Alpha Dane was number one on the leaderboard at one time, so we’ll all be trained by someone who is or was number one at one time.”
“It’s kind of a family trait,” he says.
“I
“So I’ve heard. Sebastiana is determined to knock Christian out of the top spot,” I say.
“Hurricane Sebastiana? I can’t wait to get my hands on her. Dad said she’s already showing incredible promise as a fighter,” Alpha Jackson says, turning to me. “My father is Alpha James, if you didn’t know.”
“Oh, I didn’t. Your father was wonderful. I had a chance to spar with him when he was in my pack.”
