I’m feeling pretty proud of myself. I’ve definitely taken a page out of Sebastiana’s book and found a way to get under Christian’s skin. Apparently, confidence is the key. Yeah, maybe I had to fake it, but apparently Mr. Numero Uno didn’t catch on to that part. Or maybe I’m just a better actress than I realized.

“So, what’s up between you and my brother?” Sebastiana asks as we walk to the kitchen.

“Nothing. What do you mean?” I ask her.

She stops and since our arms are interlocked, she pulls me to a stop with her.

“Besties don’t lie to each other. I saw you two before my brother went upstairs. Don’t tell me you don’t know why he needed that shower. That COLD shower, I’m sure. The heat between the two of you could melt steel. So, what gives?”

I glance behind her to see that Christian is talking with his parents and Shane.

“I’m attracted to your brother in a way I’ve never been attracted to anyone before.”

She shivers. “Eww, but okay.”

“If I have to hear about you wanting to have sex with my brother, then you can hear about me wanting to have sex with yours.”

“No,” I huff. “He says it’s not appropriate …” I begin and she snorts.

“Typical Christian. He does everything by the book. He always says right things, acts the right way, and earns everyone’s accolades. Don’t get me wrong, my brother is amazing. But he and I couldn’t be any more different.”

“I’ve noticed,” I say, grinning at her.

“I’m the fun one. But I know this job is important to Christian. It will make a name for him. It will open doors for him in the future. He can’t afford to get fired by the council because he was inappropriate with his ward. Or at least, that’s how he would see it. Personally, I think at seventeen, you should be able to decide who you want to share your bed with. And it’s not like Christian is forty. I mean the two of you aren’t even a year apart.”

“He talked to your father about it,” I tell her.

“Oh shit. It’s that serious? What did my dad say?”

“That this could be us feeling the beginnings of the mate bond, since we’re both Alphas.”

“What do you think?” she asks me. Sebastiana is interesting. She can be all about fun one moment and very serious the next. I really do like her.
