“How about we go to the office?” I say, waiting for her to step away from the table, then following her.

‘Everything okay, Alpha?” Braden asks me in the mind link.

‘Let’s keep watch on that entire group. The others seemed to settle, but I don’t trust Steven, especially once Dorian is out of the cells.‘

‘Will do.‘

As we pass Shane, I let him know that I’ll find him when I’m done talking with Enya. I want to know his thoughts on that group as well.

When we get to the office, I sit beside her.

“First, I meant what I said earlier. You have great instincts. We needed to be at that table. That situation was and probably still is a timebomb waiting to go off. I’ll talk to Shane and I just spoke to Braden, but I need you to keep your eyes open and let me know if you see anything concerning as well.”

“I can do that,” she says.

“Good. Now, the reason I brought you in here is I want to talk about earlier.”

“What about earlier?” she asks.

“When we were talking about the Academy over lunch, you became defensive. I’d like to know why. I don’t want anything interfering with our ability to develop a strong, trusting relationship. I’d like for us to

have open and honest conversation and when something bothers you. I d like to get to the bottom of it so I can address it and we can move past it.”

I watch as her eyes go wide and the blush spreads across her cheeks again. Well, this should be interesting.

Enya

I turn and glare at him. “Why do you have to be so perfect?”

He blinks, staring at me a moment before bursting into laughter.

“You’re number one on the leaderboard at an Alpha Academy. I may not have been raised to go to that Academy, but I know what that means. It means that in the world of the best, you’re the best of the best. You’re good at EVERYTHING! You’re strong enough to take on six warriors without getting a wrinkle in your perfectly pressed shirt, you’ve somehow made Shane feel confident and excited about taking over this pack, you held me while I cried then put me to bed, you were the best lover in your class … what don’t you excel at?” I ask.
