She sat down in the living room. "You want to change jobs?"
"Someone reached out to me, but their company..."
A few days later, a middle-aged man walked into the Golden Top office. "Is Leo around?"
"Hello, did you need to speak with our boss?" an employee asked, standing up to greet him.
Hearing the voice, Chunky stood up immediately. "Mr. Yates?"
Instantly, the entire office turned to look at the newcomer.
Chunky hurried over to welcome him. "Everyone, get back to work. Mr. Yates, come on in! Leo just stepped out to Kingsford University to meet with his professor, but please, have a seat. He'll be back shortly."
Chunky guided Mr. Yates around, showing off the office environment and introducing him to the staff.
Then, he discreetly sent a text to Leo.
At that exact moment, Leo was sitting in his professor's office, discussing the recent hurdles his company was facing. His mentor was well aware of the situation. Vicious corporate sabotage benefited no one, but dealing with ruthless corporate thugs was a headache even for academics.
However, as a mentor to one of the university's brightest students, he was more than willing to pull whatever strings he could to help.
"Professor, I need you to help me analyze something," Leo was saying.
Right in the middle of their conversation, Leo received Chunky's text about Mr. Yates's arrival. Without missing a beat, Leo stood up. "Professor, I've gotta run. Emergency at the office. I'll come back and bother you another day."
"Alright, drive safe."
When Leo hurried back to the office, he found that Chunky had already given Mr. Yates the grand tour. "Let's talk in my office," Leo said.
Once inside, Mr. Yates laid out his expectations. "Ten thousand a month?"
"Yes," Leo confirmed. "Plus a year-end bonus."
Chunky chimed in from the side. "I cleared nearly fifty thousand in bonuses last year."
