Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1884

Patty scoffed sarcastically, clearly thinking the young girl didn't know when to dial back her ridiculous lies.

A few of the senior colleagues eventually stepped in, telling everyone to get back to work. By the afternoon, Janice returned to the office.

Once Janice was settled, Anya went into her office. "Janice, there's something I need to tell you."

Anya recounted how she had been publicly interrogated about her salary, conveniently omitting the part where she and Patty had clashed.

"Was it Patty again?" Janice asked.

"...Well, we've never really gotten along, but it doesn't affect my work. Janice, I'm not trying to tattle. I just heard my boyfriend telling his friends once that if a company's salaries become murky, the entire team falls apart."

To put it simply, everyone came to work to make money. If people thought someone was secretly making more while they were making less, they would leave. Coincidentally, there was a highly successful headhunting firm right upstairs—Milka's former company.

Anya added softly, "Plus, the New Year is coming up."

It was the prime season for corporate turnover.

After the holidays, many people would resign or jump ship for various reasons. It was an annual hurdle every company had to face.

Janice had been so consumed by her personal affairs that she had completely neglected internal office politics. "I understand. Go back to your work."

"Okay."

As Anya walked back to her desk, Patty muttered loud enough for her to hear, "Kissing up to the boss again, I see."

Anya shot back cheerfully, "Nope. I was just busy stabbing certain people in the back."

The best weapon against passive-aggression was always Anya's blunt, innocent honesty.

Janice called a meeting that afternoon. By the time it ended, Patty's face was a sickly shade of green.
