Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance novel Chapter 1788

At home, Milka tugged at her father’s arm. “Dad, you’ve been up since four, and Mom’s plane won’t land for another two hours. Why aren’t you heading out already?”

Jupiter, suddenly a bit shy after all these years, mumbled, “Milka, do I look old to you?”

Milka glanced at him, then looped her arm through his, rare tenderness in her voice. “Of course not! You’ll always be the coolest, most handsome hero to me and Mom. We love you, Dad.”

Jupiter’s smile deepened, the wrinkles on his face creasing even more as he looked at his daughter.

Just then, Mars walked in from parking the car, grinning as he stepped into the living room. “What’s this? My ironclad father-in-law suddenly looks like a nervous newlywed.”

Jupiter pointed at him, tossing out a phrase straight from the old squad. “Watch it, you rascal. First day in the unit, I’ll have you running cross-country with a weighted pack.”

Mars thumped his chest in mock bravado. “No worries, bring it on. No matter how tough you are on me, your daughter’s the one who’ll feel bad for me at the end.”

As Mars darted around, helping with the Solomon family’s arrangements, Jupiter truly felt, maybe for the first time, that a son-in-law could be as close as a son.

Milka and Mars each took an arm and practically steered Jupiter out to the car, then drove off toward Andre’s private airfield.

It was pretty close to Maplewood Estates. On the way, Milka kept chatting about her mom’s life abroad, stories blending together until she and Mars started tossing in other topics to keep things light.

One of those topics was, “Is Henry home today?”

Mars replied, “Andre said he’s taking him to the gym this weekend. The kid needs to learn how to throw a punch. Most weekends, our godson is never at his own place—he’s either with the Irvin family or the Cedillo family, just not home.”
