When they got out of the car at the hotel, Henry’s parents headed to the front desk to pick up their key cards. Henry, meanwhile, was glued to his phone, FaceTiming his uncle. The two of them never seemed to run out of things to say—they just kept chatting away for a solid half hour.
Finally, after thirty minutes, his uncle joked, “Hey, little buddy, do you miss Kristen yet?”
On the other end, Cooper sounded annoyed. “Why are you at my place again? Hand over my keys.”
“Not a chance.”
Cooper set his phone down and went straight to Jennie, trying to wrestle the keys out of her arms.
Henry frowned, confused about where Cooper had disappeared to.
Back in the hotel room, Mia called out, “Henry, come on, time to shower with Dad!”
His call with Uncle Cooper was put on pause for now.
With the Lantern Festival over, it was almost time for Mia to start school again.
At home, Henry tried to rope Grandpa into helping him study, but all he managed to do was stress out Hansen Cedillo and leave his already-thinning hair even messier.
Hansen scratched his head and muttered, “Honestly, intelligence should run in this family…”
While Henry pretended to study, Wayne just faked it.
Molly Cedillo was busy at work, and Mia was getting her school things ready.
Meanwhile, Anya—true to her mischievous streak—flew to Havenbrook without telling anyone, only calling her boyfriend after she’d landed. “Hey, Chad~ Are you in a good mood?”
Leo Cedillo was in the middle of debugging some code when he picked up. “…You’re here already?”
Anya bit her tongue, trying to sound extra sweet. “Chad, why are you always so smart?”
Leo stood up, catching the faint sound of airport announcements in the background. “You flew in, didn’t you?”
A few seconds later, Leo added, “Send me your location.”
Anya grinned as she climbed in. “Chad, I missed you so much~”
Leo closed her door and started driving.
The route back to their neighborhood meant a longer drive, and Leo was still fielding work calls, using all sorts of tech jargon that went way over Anya’s head. “…Yeah, just leave it there for now. I’ve got Ms. Anya with me, heading to the office. I’ll take care of it when I get there.”
When they arrived at Golden Top, Leo took Anya’s hand and led her inside.
She rarely came to this part of town; it was out of the way, and Leo was never keen on her visiting. Every time she did, she tried to help, but never quite knew what to do.
Leo never had the heart to let her actually pitch in, so he always gently kept her from getting involved.
This time, Anya followed him into the warehouse and noticed how spotless it was.
Six or seven employees were working inside. The moment Leo walked in, they all called out, “Hey, boss!”
Chunky stood up. Leo just smiled and told Anya to wander around and have fun, treating her like a kid tagging along to work for the day.
