Henry burst into tears the moment his mom stopped holding him, so Mia had to swoop in and calm him down. But as soon as she turned her attention away from her little brother for a few seconds, Cooper was gone.
With Henry in her arms, Mia spun around. “Where’s Cooper?”
Andre just shrugged. “He ran off.”
On the plane ride home, Mia’s mind went back to her brother. “Babe, what’s really going on between Cooper and that princess?”
Henry looked up at her, all innocent. “How would I know, Mommy~”
Mia arched an eyebrow. “What do you know, then?” She tilted her head down to meet his eyes.
Clear as day, Henry piped up, “He’s her advisor!”
“Advisor?” Mia blinked, confused. She hugged her little guy a bit tighter and kept pressing. “Sweetie, tell Mommy everything. Who’s the advisor?”
“Cooper is~”
While Mia was busy teasing secrets out of her son, Andre gave Henry’s chubby tummy a sidelong glance and made a silent note to keep an eye on this little rascal in the future.
The second the trio set foot back home, it was like they’d been gone for years. Family members swarmed around them, fussing and asking questions from every angle. Henry got passed around so much he barely had a chance to speak.
Little Wayne stood by the coffee table, wide-eyed, taking in the big brother he hadn’t seen in days.
Chad came over, bent down, and scooped Wayne up. The two brothers locked eyes.
“Dragon~”
“Hee hee~”
Both little Henrys reached out, arms open for a hug.
Meanwhile, Naomi tugged Mia to one side, and Hansen hobbled over with his cane. “Mia, jump for your old man. Let’s see if you’re hurt.”
If Andre showed even a hint of discomfort, Mia would lose it and drag him straight to the hospital. And if Mia ever got hurt, her brother wouldn’t let her take a single step. When it came to their precious Henry, if he even sniffled, the two of them would be in full panic mode—not as chill as they were tonight.
Hansen looked at his rock-steady second son. “Everything settled?”
“Almost all of it,” Andre said.
“Almost covers a lot of ground.”
Andre nodded. “The international police are handling part of it now. It’ll take some time to see results.”
Hansen nodded, tone serious and warm. “Andre, you’re still in the hot seat. Even if this crisis passes, trouble from the outside won’t just disappear. You need to stay sharp. Don’t let Mia or our precious boy get caught up in any more danger.”
Andre gave a quiet sigh. “I know, Dad.”
That night, the Irvin family stayed for dinner at the Cedillos’. Cooper managed to slip away again. At one point, someone asked, “Mia, Cooper went overseas looking for you and Henry. Did you see him while you were there?”
