He had been so consumed by anger that he hadn't noticed the manipulative undertones in Cynthia’s words. Now that he did, his gaze turned strange. “Nancy, what did you just say? That Dennis and Camila should break up, and we should kick her out of Cabinda?”
Cynthia nodded. She assumed that in his current state of fury, separating the couple would be a matter of moments for him, so there was no need to hide her intentions. “Dennis choosing Camila was the luckiest thing that ever happened to her,” she pressed on. “But not only is she ungrateful, she’s still entangled with her ex-husband. It’s obvious she has no respect for Dennis. He is an exceptional man, admired and sought after by countless people. How can he be humiliated like this? Honestly, I can’t stand to see it!”
Adopting a tone of deep concern, she continued, “Grandpa Williams, you care about Dennis so much. It’s only natural that you’re angry!”
The elder Mr. Williams listened, feeling that something wasn’t quite right. Had she misunderstood something? He hesitated for a moment before asking, “Nancy, do you… still care for Dennis?”
Cynthia was taken aback for a second but quickly answered honestly. “My feelings have never changed. Grandpa Williams, no matter what happens or who Dennis is with now, I am willing to wait for him. He’s made a wrong choice, and I’m willing to help you correct it!”
The elder Mr. Williams felt a wave of complexity and was at a loss for words. He had thought that after everything that had happened, and after his grandson had publicly declared his love for Camila, Cynthia would have given up. He hadn’t realized her obsession ran so deep.
