Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 870

That last part sounded like she thought Audrey had some kind of brother complex, terrified of another woman stealing his attention.

Audrey's expression grew even stranger. Cynthia didn't notice.

Lost in her own narrative, Cynthia wrapped her arm around Audrey's, as if they were co-conspirators. "I've been bothered by it for a while now. You and Dennis have been siblings for over twenty years. What right does some outsider have to ruin your relationship? If it were me, I wouldn't say a word. In fact, I'd dote on you even more than Dennis does. I'd give you anything you wanted."

The implication was clear, and Audrey didn't know whether to laugh or cry. The attempt at bribery was so clumsy. Was Cynthia really this desperate?

She wanted to sigh. Was it so hard to just wish someone well? For a sophisticated society woman, this kind of backstabbing and manipulation was incredibly tacky.

Audrey considered reasoning with her, but then thought better of it. Cynthia's obsession with her brother was clearly irrational. If she pushed back now, it might provoke Cynthia into trying something even more despicable. It was better to play along and keep her pacified.

She forced a smile. "I know you've always been good to me, Cynthia. I'll think about what you said. And if I get the chance, I'll try to talk to Dennis."
