Robert followed Adolf’s line of sight, his eyes settling on a pair who looked almost too perfect together. Just by looking at them, you could tell they were something special. Their looks were striking, but it was their unmistakable aura of confidence and status that really set them apart.
He was about to look away when his gaze landed on Audrey Williams. For a moment, he hesitated, a flicker of surprise in his eyes. Then, without waiting for Adolf to say a word, he stood up and made his way over to her, moving quickly.
Adolf was caught off guard and stood there for a second, not sure what was going on. But Robert was already out of his seat, so Adolf hurried after him.
Robert reached Audrey and Walter and greeted them with a polite, almost eager smile. “Excuse me, are you Ms. Williams?”
Audrey turned at the sound of her name, surprised to find Robert standing there. She hadn’t expected him to approach her so directly. She knew he was at Harrisburg University for a lecture, but she never thought he’d recognize her.
She gave him a calm and gentle smile. “Yes, I am.”
Robert’s smile brightened, like she had just confirmed something he’d been hoping for. “I thought so…”
Walter glanced at Audrey, eyebrows raised, silently asking if they knew each other. Audrey gave a tiny shake of her head, signaling she’d explain later, then turned back to Robert, curiosity in her voice. “Have we met before?”
“We have, just once,” Robert said with a friendly grin. “I’m Robert William. I’m here for a lecture. We actually crossed paths two years ago in Eldoria, at a Dean family event. You were there on behalf of NextGen Technologies. Your company’s reputation in system technology is legendary, and I’ve always admired that. I wanted to introduce myself that night, but something urgent came up and I had to leave. I’ve always regretted missing that chance. Running into you here today is a real surprise.”
His words brought back memories for Audrey. That night at a foreign noble’s banquet, the guest list was full of big names in the business world. She hadn’t realized Robert was one of them.
Was this what people called a pleasant surprise?
Audrey reached out her hand, her smile warm and sincere. “I’ve heard about you for ages, Robert. It’s honestly a privilege to meet you in person.”
Robert returned the handshake, just as friendly. “The feeling’s mutual.”
By now, Adolf had pieced together what was going on. He stepped up, smiling. “Who would’ve thought fate would bring everyone together like this? I’ve already reserved a table for lunch. Why don’t we all eat together and keep the conversation going?”
“Absolutely,” Robert agreed, looking like he had more questions for Audrey and Walter.
Since meeting Robert was exactly why Audrey and Walter had come, Adolf’s offer was perfect. They both nodded without hesitation.
“We appreciate it, Adolf,” Audrey said.
With their plan going even better than expected, the group settled in to enjoy the rest of the performance on stage, already looking forward to lunch and more conversation.
