Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1215

Walter was totally on board at first, but that last part caught him off guard. He glanced at Audrey and asked, “Why are we going to my place?”

Audrey gave him a look. “Did you forget already? We bought that Christmas tree and a bunch of decorations a couple days ago. They still need to be set up. You said you didn’t know how, and I promised to help. I’m actually free tonight.”

That finally jogged Walter’s memory. He nodded. “Right, everything’s already arrived. It’s all just sitting in my living room. But as for dinner, I don’t think I can swing it tonight. I’ve got a client meeting.”

“Oh, really?” Audrey’s excitement faded instantly. “I thought I’d have someone to eat with tonight. Guess I’ll just have dinner by myself.”

She looked like a little kitten that had just been left out in the rain. Walter couldn’t help feeling a little guilty. He was still thinking about it when Audrey looked at him with hopeful eyes. “So, what restaurant are you meeting your client at tonight?”

He answered without thinking. “Some private dining spot on the west side.”

Audrey’s eyes lit up. “I’ve never been there. Is the food any good?”

Her face was pure foodie, and it made Walter want to laugh. He decided to tease her a bit. “Yeah, it’s actually pretty good. Honestly, I think you’d like it.”

Audrey’s eyes got even brighter. “Then… can I come too?” She looked so hopeful, like she was afraid he’d say no. “I’ll get my own table, I promise I won’t interrupt your meeting. When you’re done, we can leave together. Please?”

Her voice was soft and she looked so sweet that saying no just didn’t feel like an option.

“Alright,” Walter agreed, barely thinking about it. Then he paused, surprised at how easily he’d given in. He always seemed to go soft when it came to her. No matter how unreasonable her requests were, as long as she asked nicely, he’d always say yes in the end.

He told himself it was just because of Camila Davis. Camila was a good friend, and she’d asked him to look out for Audrey. Besides, Audrey’s health wasn’t great. He always worried about leaving her alone in case something happened.

Audrey had no idea what was going through his mind. When he agreed, her whole face lit up with the biggest, brightest smile. “Walter, you’re the best!”

Seeing her that happy made him smile too, even if he tried to hide it.

After they finished up their work, Audrey just hung out nearby, scrolling on her phone and waiting for Walter to finish. In the evening, they headed to the restaurant together. The west side wasn’t far from Walter’s company—maybe a twenty-minute drive at most.

“Alright. Call me if you need anything.” With that, Walter headed off to his meeting, totally at ease.

Audrey followed Harden and the others to another private room, chatting and laughing along the way.

Once they were settled and flipping through menus, Harden took the seat next to Audrey. He leaned in and whispered, “You and Walter seem pretty close lately. Are you two dating?”

Audrey didn’t even try to hide it. “No, not yet. But I’m planning to chase after him.”

“I knew it!” Harden’s eyes went wide, and he smacked his thigh in excitement. “You two look perfect together. Audrey, you’ve got this. I’m totally rooting for you!”

Audrey hadn’t expected such enthusiastic support. His dramatic reaction made her laugh. “If I’m not mistaken, you’re friends with Iris, right?”

Harden wasn’t slow on the uptake. He immediately understood what she was getting at.
