After everyone shared a laugh, Sarah chimed in, “Honestly, I think bringing up marriage right now is a little rushed. My brother is always about getting things done fast, but he never thinks about the details. That’s not a great way to handle things.”
Billy’s face went cold. He would never talk back to their parents, but putting his little sister in her place was a different story. He shot her a frosty look.
Sarah immediately felt a chill run down her spine. She quickly backtracked. “I just mean, maybe we could start by having both families get together for dinner. At the table, Mom and Dad could get a sense of what the Robinsons are thinking and let them know how much we like Aurora as a future daughter-in-law. Then we can see how they react and figure out our next steps. That way, we give them a heads-up. If they don’t object to my brother and Aurora, we can always make things official later.”
“I think that’s a great idea,” Beatty said, nodding.
Since his wife agreed, Waldo made the call right away. “Alright, it’s settled. Billy, you’ll set it up.”
“Okay.” Even Billy had to admit, his usually clueless sister had come up with something useful for once. His expression softened a bit.
With their son’s situation sorted out, the couple finally turned their attention to their daughter’s love life.
Beatty asked, “Larry Adams is still in Cabinda, right? Is he busy? If he’s not, let’s pick a day to meet him. Your dad and I would like to get to know him.”
Sarah had been waiting for this. She nodded right away. “Tonight works! Larry already knew you were coming back, so he’s ready. He even told me to bring you home first to rest before meeting him.”
In front of her parents, Sarah made sure to put in a good word for her boyfriend. “Just a couple days ago, he asked me to help him pick out gifts for you. He’s taking this really seriously...”
Hearing their daughter talk like that, Waldo and Beatty already felt pretty good about their future son-in-law.
That evening, Larry reserved a private room at a nice restaurant and came to pick up Sarah and her parents himself. He made sure to bring along the gifts he’d carefully chosen.
When Waldo saw this polite, good-looking young man, he was actually quite satisfied. He didn’t feel at all like his precious daughter was being stolen away.
