“Wow, is she really some heiress from Cabinda? What’s her deal with our president?”
“You think she’s going to be Mrs. Wilson someday?”
“No way. The president’s never shown the slightest interest in dating. He’s all about the job.”
“I always thought Ms. Davis would end up as Mrs. Wilson.”
“Ms. Davis has a boyfriend now, I heard. But this new girl, she’s gorgeous. Totally different from those women who pile on the makeup and try to cozy up to him.”
“The president always seems so reserved, like he’s going to be single forever. Is that even possible?”
“I wouldn’t rule it out, but I just saw Aiden walk her out himself. He doesn’t do that for most people, right?”
“Exactly. I’ve never seen him personally escort a client out before.”
“Aiden’s a big deal too. Usually, no one gets that kind of treatment from him unless it’s someone special.”
“So, who is she?”
...
Walter blinked, completely thrown off. His dad had never interfered in his work before. This had to mean something, but he knew there was no point arguing now. So he just followed along, resigned.
At the restaurant, his mom was already waiting for them. Walter hadn’t even sat down before she leaned in with a big, excited grin. “So, that girl who came to see you this morning... what’s her story? Who is she? What’s her relationship to you? Which family does she come from? What’s her name? I heard she’s from Cabinda and you personally met with her. Tsk, tsk, Walter... other than Camila, I’ve never seen you treat a girl so seriously. Come on, spill!”
Walter felt a headache coming on. He got hit with a barrage of questions before he could even open his menu. “Where are you getting all this gossip? What do you mean, special treatment? I’ve met with plenty of female clients before.”
Leda clicked her tongue and shook her head. “A female client is just a client, but a young woman is something else. It’s not the same. Aiden never personally walks other clients out. Don’t act like you didn’t tell him to do it. Now, explain yourself!”
Walter rubbed his temples, already exhausted. He knew his mom well enough to realize she wasn’t going to let him leave until she got an answer. So he had no choice but to explain who Audrey was and why she’d come to The Smith Group.
