Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1140

Cynthia could see Audrey didn't want to talk anymore, so she let it go. “Okay, get some rest. If you ever want to talk, I’ll be right here. I’m not going anywhere.”

Audrey ended up sleeping straight through to the evening. When she finally woke up, Sarah Brown and Larry Adams had come by to see her.

Both of them were holding flowers, their faces full of worry as they walked in.

“Audrey, are you alright? We just heard you were in the hospital. What happened?”

“I thought you were getting better. How did you end up here again?”

Seeing the two of them, Audrey couldn’t help but smile. “Larry, Sarah, you came… I’m really okay, I just felt really down the last couple of days. I’m fine now, really. Sorry for worrying you.”

The moment she said “down,” Larry and Sarah exchanged a look, and the air in the room grew heavy. They didn’t bring it up again, though. Instead, they fussed over Audrey, checking on her and trying to lift her mood.

While they talked with Audrey, neither of them even glanced at Cynthia. It was as if she didn’t exist.

Cynthia felt her annoyance flare up. She’d never been ignored like this before, especially not outside her own home. It was always this same group that managed to get under her skin. Still, she tried to brush it off. Their attitude was all because of Camila Davis. Once she got together with Dennis Williams, she doubted they’d dare treat her this way.

Larry and Sarah didn’t stay long. After a little while, they said their goodbyes and left the hospital.

Once they were outside, Sarah’s disgust was written all over her face.

“What about my place?” Larry offered.

Sarah shot him a look. “Your house is full. All your relatives are there.”

Larry had just moved his grandparents in, and Uncle Douglas and Aunt Charlotte were staying over, too. They were starting a small business in Cabinda, and Larry was helping them out. His younger cousins came back on weekends and holidays. There was no way they’d get any peace.

After thinking for a second, Larry suggested, “How about your place?”

“Sounds good,” Sarah said, not even hesitating.
