This was something not even Jordan Smith knew. But survival mattered more than anything now, and Sandra Taylor wasn’t about to risk it. She couldn’t bring herself to lie, not after everything she’d been through. The memory of that torture still clung to her, pain echoing in her body, making fear settle deep in her bones. She was done pretending to be brave.
Blackdog listened closely, weighing every word. It was obvious that either Sandra or Lavinia was hiding the truth, but the way both women clung to life made it hard to believe either would dare to lie right now.
Then, he caught something odd. In all their statements, neither Sandra nor Lavinia mentioned ever meeting face to face.
He turned to Sandra, eyes sharp. “When did you meet up with Lavinia Roberts to plan all this?”
Sandra shook her head quickly. “I never met her. She said she couldn’t show up in person, so she sent her assistant instead. It was always the assistant who called, never her.”
So all the contact went through an assistant…
Blackdog felt his instincts kicking in. “What’s this assistant’s name? Do you have a picture?”
Sandra answered right away, not daring to hold anything back. “He said his name was Patton.”
Blackdog went to check with Lavinia, and this time, her story lined up perfectly with Sandra’s.
He reported everything to Aaron without delay.
His expression grew colder, eyes full of warning and danger.
After a pause, he spoke to Aaron, his tone grave. “We haven’t gone far enough yet. That man—Patton—is the key. Since Sandra’s capture already put them on guard, have Lavinia play along. Set up a trap. Let’s see who we catch. I want to know who thinks they can get away with this.”
“Understood.”
Even if Mr. Williams hadn’t said it, Aaron was already thinking the same thing. Still, he couldn’t help but sigh inside. It was just one problem after another.
But one thing was certain. Anyone who tried to hurt Ms. Davis was now in Mr. Williams’s sights. And none of them would get away.
