No one laid a finger on her and got away with it, not if Dennis Williams had anything to say about it. It didn’t matter who they were. And with the real mastermind still hiding out there, if they didn’t find them soon, Camila Davis would have to spend every day looking over her shoulder. That was something Dennis simply couldn’t accept.
“Got it,” Aaron replied right away. He glanced over at Dennis, waiting for instructions. “Should we take Ms. Davis home now? And what about RedFox, White Bull, and the rest of the Red Spider crew? What do you want to do with them?”
Before Dennis could answer, RedFox, still sprawled on the ground, panicked. “Wait, don’t go! Ms. Davis, you promised you’d fix my leg…”
If she left now, nobody else could help him. He’d be back to limping around, stuck in the same miserable spot as before. RedFox looked at Camila, desperate, hoping she’d say something on his behalf.
Mr. Byron marched over and gave him another swift kick. “You’ve got some nerve, asking Camila to treat your leg.”
Dennis had been so focused on Camila that he hadn’t even thought to ask about this. Now, hearing RedFox’s outburst, he turned to her with a puzzled look. “What’s this about treating his leg?”
Camila didn’t try to hide anything. She told him everything, straight up—how she’d offered to help RedFox as a way to stall for time.
Aaron and Mr. Byron shot her looks of genuine respect. To stay cool under that kind of pressure, to come up with a plan like that—her nerve and quick thinking were seriously impressive.
Dennis hadn’t expected it either, but it made sense now. That was how they’d found her getting along with the Red Spider guys when they showed up. She’d won them over with her medical skills.
“Understood.” Mr. Byron had no complaints. In fact, he almost felt grateful. Red Spider had been running wild in Kaston for years. No one had been able to take them down, and now Dennis was just handing the victory to him.
He felt a twinge of guilt, though. Camila had ended up in danger because of their operation, and he hadn’t even been much help in the rescue. Yet here he was, getting credit for taking down a major crime ring.
Dennis didn’t care about that. Now that Camila was safe, there was no point sticking around. He gathered his people to leave.
Aaron hauled RedFox over, and the guy looked completely lost. Now he truly understood how much trouble he’d brought onto Red Spider. Facing BlackScorpion and SilverWolf, he had no idea what to do, his hands fidgeting uselessly. Honestly, if they beat him right then and there, he wouldn’t even blame them. He knew he deserved it.
